In Re: Commitment of M.M., the Indiana Court of Appeals affirmed the indefinite commitment of a patient with schizoaffective disorder, emphasizing how insight, medication adherence and independent functioning impact grave disability determinations. The Court ruled that medical testimony carries more weight than patient claims, refusal to acknowledge an illness can support a grave disability finding and a history of hospitalizations and treatment noncompliance can influence legal outcomes.
