⚖️ The International Court of Justice (ICJ) delivered today a groundbreaking advisory opinion, affirming that states have binding legal obligations to address the #ClimateCrisis AND protect affected populations. The ICJ ruled that governments must prevent environmental harm, cooperate globally, and ensure full reparations for climate-related damage, including regulating corporate emissions. The Court also recognised that the right to a clean, healthy, and sustainable environment is a foundational #HumanRight and that future generations must be protected. As climate disasters intensify and major polluters delay action, this ruling sends a clear message ahead of #COP30: human rights, equity, and accountability must be at the core of global climate efforts, including here in Luxembourg. #ClimateJustice #ClimateAction #FossilFree #LossAndDamage

July 23, 2025: A defining day for international climate law. Next week, the world’s highest court will deliver its first-ever climate advisory opinion — a ruling that could set a new guiding star for all nations to put people and the planet first, and hold climate polluters to account. By combining international human rights, environmental, and climate law, the ruling could usher in a new era of climate action, in which states can no longer credibly hide behind weak voluntary commitments or obstruct climate negotiations. Like, share, and raise your voice if you believe polluters must pay for the damage they’ve caused. #ClimateICJAO #ClimateJusticeAtTheICJ

🏳️🌈 Yesterday, some members of the Greenpeace Luxembourg team proudly joined the #LuxembourgPrideRun, not just as runners, but as allies to the LGBTQIA+ community, celebrating diversity, inclusion, and #HumanRights. At Greenpeace, we know that fighting for a green and peaceful future means standing up for justice in all its forms. #ClimateJustice and social justice go hand in hand — and that includes creating a world where everyone, regardless of their identity, can thrive in safety, dignity, and equality. By taking part in #Pride, we reaffirm our belief that environmental activism must be inclusive. A greener future is only possible when built on a foundation of respect, #Solidarity, and shared values. Here's to a world that celebrates love, diversity, and unity — on the streets, in our movements, and in our vision for tomorrow. 🌈

40 years ago today, the Greenpeace flagship #RainbowWarrior was bombed and sunk in Auckland Harbour, 🇳🇿 New Zealand, by French secret service agents. Two blasts destroyed the ship and killed onboard photographer, Fernando Pereira. The bombing came at the height of the campaign to stop nuclear weapons testing in the Pacific and was an attempt to silence Greenpeace and the anti-nuclear movement in the Pacific that threatened the French nuclear weapons program and colonial power in the Pacific. They failed to silence us. ❌ The attack backfired, instead galvanising the movement. Greenpeace only grew stronger, and "You Can’t Sink a Rainbow" became a rallying call for #Resistance. The Rainbow Warrior sailed again and is here today as a powerful symbol of resistance, putting #Hope into action for a better world. ⛵🌈

🔥 A new study by Grantham Institute concludes: Last week’s heatwave killed an estimated 2,300 people across 12 European cities. Scientists say 65% of those deaths were driven by fossil fuel-fueled climate chaos. According to the study, burning gas, coal and oil made temperatures up to 4°C hotter. Seniors were hit the hardest, but this affects all of us. Fossil fuels (gas, oil, coal) are not safe. They're driving deadly heat. We must #StopFossilGas now and are demanding a ban on all new fossil fuel projects! ✊

What if the Grand Duchess Charlotte had been silenced? 🤐 Today, we gagged the statue of the Grand Duchess Charlotte to sound the alarm about the rise of SLAPPs — abusive lawsuits designed to intimidate and silence journalists, activists and whistleblowers. Every year, dozens of people speaking truth to power are dragged to court by companies or powerful actors trying to shut them up. And while the EU passed a law against SLAPPs one year ago, Luxembourg has yet to turn it into real protections. This can’t go on. 🛑 It’s time to defend those who protect the planet, #HumanRights and #Democracy. #StopSLAPPs #TimeToResist #HandsOffOurSpeech
