AI coding is in full-blown gold rush mode, and GitHub sits at the epicenter. A real treat to get to sit down with CEO Thomas Dohmke and chat about: * Why $7.5B was such a cheap price for GitHub in retrospect * How AI coding is ground zero for Generative AI * The bull and bear case for Cursor and other AI-native IDEs * The rise of vibe coding * What AI means for SaaS * The future of coding agents Fantastic episode for anyone (coders and non-coders) trying to understand where AI is going. Big news for all the vibecoders out there: There’s a new version of GitHub Copilot live in VS Code today, with updates to bring you more MCP support, smarter chat tools, and better source control. Here’s the rundown: The Remote GitHub MCP Server is here. 🔑🤖We're expanding the GitHub MCP Server with a new hosted option alongside our existing local server. No more local installation needed, no more manual updates, no more runtime. Just copy the server URL, paste it into your MCP client, authenticate, and you're ready to build the software of your dreams with popular agentic pathways – like a USB port for intelligence. Toolsets have entered the chat. ⚒️VS Code now enables you to define tool sets in chat, either through a proposed API or through the UI. Run the Configure Tool Sets > Create new tool sets file command from the Command Palette and boom, you’ve got new tools. Source control is better than ever. 👀🟩We’ve added highly requested features to the GitHub PR extensions allowing you to assign a PR or issue to Copilot from VS Code, see all the PRs that Copilot is working on, and check the status of the Copilot coding agent in browser. Check out the full release notes here. What will you use it to build? 🤔

GitHub AI evaluations have gone local 😎 You can now run: > gh models eval [your .prompt.yml file] from your CLI and get the same evaluators you’d use in the GitHub Models UI. Think of evaluations like CI/CD for your AI outputs. If you're building AI products, this is how you check: - Is the model actually doing what I want? - Is it doing it consistently? Why this matters: - Faster feedback loops - Stay in the flow rather than bouncing out to our UI - It's more fun :) Try it out and let us know any feedback!
