Dive into an op-ed by Freshwater Future's executive director, Jill Ryan, examining the potential freshwater impacts of the Energy Permitting Reform Act in the United States (and keep in mind the transboundary waterbodies across the Canada-US border that could be affected).
Please check out my thoughts on a bill touted to solve climate project permitting delays, but that actually fast tracks oil, gas and mining projects. Water is too important to remove protections in the permitting processes.

https://lnkd.in/dPj6Jzam The Hill Publishes Jill Ryan’s Opinion Piece on the Dangerous Energy Permitting Reform Act - An opinion piece on the dangerous Energy Permitting Reform Act authored by Jill Ryan, Freshwater Future’s Executive Director, was published this week by The Hill. There is still time to defeat this harmful legislation that would open up public lands to oil and gas drilling, as well as mining waste, increasing pollution risk to waterways.

Thoughts After the Election: Now More than Ever - All of us at Freshwater Future want you to know that we're thinking of you after this election. One key takeaway is the deep divisions in our nation on social, political, and economic issues. But one thing unites us all: the shared commitment to protecting the water resources of the Great Lakes region and ensuring a healthy future for our communities. Now more than ever, Freshwater Future is dedicated to supporting the needs of our Great Lakes community. We’re grateful for what we’ve accomplished together, and we’re ready to keep moving forward to achieve even more. This election means our work will face new challenges and headwinds, but we’re confident that together, we can envision new strategies and partnerships to keep protecting our waters. The Great Lakes region—and the communities that depend on it—face many threats: pollution, climate change, unaffordable water, and more. With your support and collective voice, we’re committed to working even harder for future victories. Thank you for being part of this important journey with us. We’re excited to build a strong future together, and as always, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me or any of the Freshwater Future team with any questions or ideas. - Jill Ryan and all of your friends at Freshwater Future
