  • 480 organ transplants. 480 lives transformed. In 2024, M Health Fairview's organ transplant teams helped more people than ever before – and in the process set a new system annual record for the number of organ transplants we performed.     Included in that record-breaking annual total are 66 lung, 125 liver, and 307 kidney transplants. Each was a record for those programs. “Completing 480 transplants in one year is not just a milestone—it’s a testament to our team's expertise and compassion — and the selflessness of donors and their families who make it possible,” said Andrew Adams, MD, with M Health Fairview and the University of Minnesota Medical School But the number is more than just a milestone. Lynn Grace was on hospice until a lung transplant with our teams changed her life for good. • For 34 years, Johnny Williams has worked in environmental services at M Health Fairview Southdale Hospital, where he keeps spaces clean, safe, and welcoming for patients and their families. For him, the work is satisfying. But it’s his presence, dedication, and uplifting spirit that inspires everyone around him. His commitment to hard work, respect, and family was shaped by his greatest role model – his mother. “My mom taught me the importance of being a provider and a source of stability for those I love,” he said. “I truly enjoy coming to work, connecting with people, and doing what I love. It’s not just about the job, it’s about the impact I can make, the relationships I build, and the satisfaction I get from contributing to something meaningful.”   As we celebrate Black History Month, Johnny shared what this time means to him: “Black History Month is special because it’s a time to celebrate Black people, our accomplishments, and our culture. Being Black can be tough – sometimes it’s hard to be seen, heard, respected, and valued in a world that often overlooks us. But during this month, Black history is recognized and celebrated, reminding us of our strength, resilience, and contributions.” Join us in thanking Johnny for his many years of hard work and passion.  👏

  • Good news: M Health Fairview Clinic – River Falls is growing so families in western Wisconsin don’t have to travel far for expert care. We are welcoming two new providers to the clinic and are expanding care in several important areas to better serve the community, including students at University of Wisconsin-River Falls. “We have providers who are bilingual, focused on reproductive medicine, and pediatrics,” said Steve Robinson, MD, vice president of primary care medical practice for the Saint Croix Region. We’ve also added virtual urgent care and eVisits to create more care options for families in the area. “For most of your healthcare needs, you can stay right here in River Falls,” said Michelle Johnson, clinic manager. “We’ll bring the specialists to you.” Find out what our growing River Falls clinic has to offer. ➡️ https://mhfv.care/4i5o5AL

  • 70-year-old Jim Barron was one of the first people in our health system to receive a newly approved TriClip heart device. Jim had a leaky tricuspid valve, a serious heart condition that is traditionally repaired through open-heart surgery. An expert team at M Health Fairview St. John’s Hospital used a minimally invasive approach that got Jim back on his feet faster. The clip will last Jim for the rest of his life and has already helped feel stronger, more energized and ready to embrace life again. “This builds on our team's experience in the burgeoning space of tricuspid disease,” said Marat Yanavitski, MD, an interventional and structural heart disease cardiologist with M Health Fairview who helped treat Jim. “We were part of the TR Clasp II clinical trial using a similar device, and we became the first center in the region to offer catheter-based repairs for the tricuspid valve, which until recently did not have many treatment options.” This year, St. John’s hospital was ranked #1 for cardiology in the Twin Cities by Healthgrades. • Phil Hubble is holding on to “a little bit of hope” thanks to a new treatment for his Alzheimer’s disease that is giving him more time with loved ones. That extra time means a lot for Phil, who lost his wife, Gloria Jean, to Alzheimer’s a few years ago.  “Stay with them and share with them and love them as long as you can,” is what Phil says his wife would want him to do. “So I’m sure this would please her.” Jacob Manske, MD, a neurologist with M Health Fairview and assistant professor with the University of Minnesota Medical School, says that the medication, called lecanemab, is most beneficial for patients in the early stages of Alzheimer’s, because it slows the progression of the disease. “It’s a powerful and hopeful step in the right direction.” M Health Fairview is one of the few health care systems in Minnesota that offers this groundbreaking treatment. • Every day, more than 9,400 nurses across our health system transform the lives of our patients for the better. Their leadership, compassion, and dedication extend far beyond the bedside. The 2024 Nursing Annual Report is our chance to recognize them for their achievements. This year, our nurses achieved some remarkable milestones: 🖥️ They launched a first-of-its-kind virtual reality program in partnership with the University of Minnesota School of Nursing to revolutionize training and helped equip new nurses with the tools and knowledge to transition into professional nursing practice. 🎓 Our nurses hold over 2,160 specialty certifications, and more than 500 nurses have a master’s degree in nursing – demonstrating their commitment to professional growth and patient care. ❤️ Over 100 nurses from our health system were honored this year with The DAISY Foundation Award for Extraordinary Nurses. Over 2,400 nurses were nominated this year by patients, families, and colleagues. • For Patricia Pettis, a Spanish-speaking healthcare interpreter with M Health Fairview, medical interpreting is more than just translating words. It is about delivering the message in a way that is culturally informed and compassionate. While there are moments that can be emotionally difficult when working with patients, there are moments that renew her motivation.  “Seeing the relief and gratitude on a patient’s face when they hear, ‘The interpreter is here,’ fills me with confidence and determination to continue,” she said. “A simple thank you from the medical team and the patient after each encounter makes my day.” While she finds gratification in making sure her patients are heard and understood, she also loves how her own goals align with our health system’s mission to empower all patients to improve their health. Help us thank Patricia for her commitment to her patients and for making healthcare more accessible for all.  👏

  • 10,000 hours. That’s how much time our employees spent volunteering in our communities in 2024. Together, they built accessible housing with Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity, provided free vaccines and equitable healthcare access at Twin Cities Pride Festival, packed and distributed fresh produce meals for families in need, and so much more.  Our commitment to community extends far beyond our hospital and clinic walls. Thank you to every volunteer who gave their time, energy, and heart to serve others. 💙 #Healthcare | #Volunteer | #CommunityCare

  • Your heart is in good hands at M Health Fairview St. John’s Hospital, ranked #1 in the Twin Cities for Cardiology in 2025 by Healthgrades. This puts St. John’s, located in Maplewood, Minn., in the top 10% of cardiac specialty programs in the nation. The hospital also earned HealthGrades’ Coronary Intervention Excellence Award and is a five-star recipient for heart failure treatment. “Our cardiology team is focused on delivering exceptional care to patients in our community,” said Will Nicholson, MD, vice president of medical affairs at St. John’s. “That means top quality, full-spectrum cardiology care is now available closer to home for everybody here in the east metro area.” But St. John’s isn’t the only leading hospital in the M Health Fairview system. Southdale Hospital, in Edina, is #3 in the Twin Cities in 2025, according to HealthGrades. Ridges Hospital and University of Minnesota Medical Center were also honored.
