Great session today in Portsmouth meeting students at the City of Portsmouth College careers fair. Thanks to Xhana Barlow, Karen Griffin and the team at COPC for the invite. Fun fact Portsmouth is the most densely populated city in the UK (s/o Tiana Fray for that). Every day is a school day! (Btw no, we didn't take that photo).

Huge thanks to our all our panelists at last night's Fairfield Enterprise networking event. We had mega valuable insights from Marshall Wace's Anthony Clake, Hannah Austin from UBS, James Crossley & Tony Overy from Rathbones Group Plc, Jack Wasserman, CFA from Schroders Greencoat LLP, Tim Williams from Brevan Howard, Reid Murphy from Point72, Ben Peters from Evenlode Investment and Tina De Baere from Polus Capital Management. The panels were expertly moderated by Charlotte Richards from J.P. Morgan. Thanks a million also to Gemma Wright and the team at Rathbones Group Plc for donating their events space and making everything run so smoothly! Also hats off to candidates Leo Little and Liam Cronin for winning the 'furthest travelled to be there' prize - a solid 600 mile round trip from Durham and back in the same day.

Shout out to Fairfield Enterprise volunteers Fahad Hussain and Ramesh Rahmani for spending the day at Notre Dame Catholic Sixth Form College in their home town of Leeds. They spoke to hundreds of students about careers in the finance industry, resulting in 35 of them enrolling in our next Level 4 Diploma in Investment Management hosted by AmplifyME in April. Thanks for the invite Helen Collins. There's no substitute for meeting students in person when it comes to creating impact.

Looking back to a day last year when we visited Birmingham and Manchester to meet the young people at Street League and HideOut Youth Zone to discuss careers in finance. As part of the visits we played games of football and basketball and were treated to KFC and pizza by the unbelievable staff. Among the Fairfield volunteers who attended that day were local Fairfield Enterprise Core Candidates Adem Akgun, Sam Sliwa and Darcio Massala. The fact they are from similar backgrounds to these young people and have succeeded in bagging roles at Aviva Investors, BNY and Blinx Solutions is a huge inspiration. The ongoing commitment of Fairfield alumni to giving back to the next generation is incredible and is one of the biggest contributing factors in the impact of our work. The 3 piece meal was just a bonus!

A year ago today, whilst up in the north east as part of our Schools & Colleges programme, we called in to Sunderland AFC to talk about job opportunities with a group of young people being helped by Foundation of Light (SAFC). Fiona Murphy, Neil Jones and the rest of the team do amazing work in their community and it was inspiring to meet them and the young people they work with. We aim to make the biggest possible impact in the areas we visit and having strong links with local schools, businesses and charities is vital in enabling us to do that. Just to be nice we let them beat us at football too...

New book-club book! The results are in, and you’ve decided we’re reading ‘How Big Things Get Done’ next. This is a good choice IMO - I *love* working out how shizz works. If you can, please buy it from The Billion Dollar Book Club’s own store (hosted on bookshop dot org - just search for it on that website), as a portion of the sale will go to charity (Fairfield Enterprise), with a further slug going to local bookshops (and none to me for the avoidance of doubt!). I’ve already ordered my copy. See you back here in a month or so to swap views. All are welcome! Full book name: How Big Things Get Done: The surprising factors behind every successful project, from home renovation to space exploration, by Prof. Bent Flyvbjerg and Dan Gardner. Enjoy! (or not, but either way let us know…) #billiondollarbookclub

It's Trustees Week this week so we're putting the spotlight on David Nunes, CFA, CAIA, who co founded Fairfield Enterprise in 2020 and is Chair of Trustees. Dave has 20 years of industry experience and is an SVP at Lazard Asset Management. He passes on his insights and guidance to our candidates with an infectious enthusiasm and positivity. Here's a photo of him putting the work in at a careers day as part of our Schools & Colleges programme.

Day 1 of the Fairfield Enterprise x AmplifyME Level 4 Diploma (for 16-18 year olds) today. It was >2x over subscribed but those that missed out will be able to join us for the next one in January. 9 different regions in total represented, with a particularly strong turn out from Sheffield for this one which is great. Thanks Anne Wilson MBE Whyy Change & Samantha Headford for making introductions to schools & colleges across the city. It's particularly good to see participants from all over the UK interacting in the chat already. Hard working & driven young people networking and sharing ideas is a big part of the value of the course. Thanks as always to Marshall Wace for supporting this programme.
