🚨 Busted: The Spanish Guardia Civil, with the support of Europol and authorities from Estonia, France and US have dismantled a criminal network engaged in cryptocurrency investment fraud. The investigation identified that the perpetrators had laundered EUR 460 million in illicit profits stolen through crypto investment fraud from over 5 000 victims from around the world. 🌐 Europol started supporting the investigation in 2023. Since then, Europol’s financial crime experts have assisted Spanish authorities by coordinating the investigation, providing operational support, and delivering strategic analysis. Two productive days in Warsaw for the 143rd Europol Management Board meeting, hosted by the Polish Presidency 🇵🇱 🎯 Representatives from EU Member States, the Commission and Europol’s top management gathered to discuss Europol’s strategic developments. The Management Board had a dedicated discussion on the future of Europol and the challenges facing European police cooperation in the digital age, particularly in light of a rapidly evolving criminal landscape. 🇦🇷 The Board also approved enhanced cooperation with Argentina. 💡 The meeting also reflected on the recent EU Terrorism Situation and Trend Report 2025 #TESAT25. 📍 The 26th Europol Financial Intelligence Public Private Partnership (#EFIPPP) Plenary took place last week in Brussels, hosted by the European Banking Federation. 👥 The 2-day event gathered representatives from law enforcement, financial intelligence units, and financial institutions. 💬 The focus of the plenary was Underground Banking. Day 1 included an introduction to the topic and a dedicated panel on Chinese underground banking. On Day 2, participants explored how the phenomenon manifests in different member states, followed by a closing panel bringing together diverse perspectives from FIUs, FIs, and law enforcement. 🔎 The plenary also featured updates from EFIPPP working groups, including plans to re-establish an #OSINT taskforce within the community.
