A new bill could change what’s allowed in food in the Empire State. The New York Food Safety and Chemical Disclosure Act would ban harmful substances commonly found in processed foods. If passed, the bill would: ✅ Ban three toxic chemicals from New York food. ✅ Ban six artificial dyes from New York public school food. ✅ Require more transparency about added chemicals in food. New York is one of 15 states to introduce bills on this issue in 2025! Should other states follow? West Virginia is making history! 🚨 On March 5, the Senate advanced a bill to ban seven harmful food dyes and two toxic chemicals. What was banned? ✅ Synthetic dyes – Red Dye No. 3, Red Dye No. 40, Yellow Dye No. 5, Yellow Dye No. 6, Blue Dye No. 1, Blue Dye No. 2 and Green Dye No. 3 ✅ Chemical additives – Propyl paraben and BHA Synthetic dyes have been found to cause neurobehavioral problems in some children. BHA, or butylated hydroxyanisole, has been linked to cancer and propyl paraben has been linked to harm to the reproductive and hormone system. This year, over 20 states have introduced legislation to protect consumers from harmful food chemicals, synthetic dyes and heavy metals. Millions of Americans unknowingly consume tap water contaminated with hundreds of chemicals, heavy metals and radioactive substances. The contaminants are often at levels exceeding what scientists consider safe, even if the water quality meets outdated federal standards. EWG’s latest Tap Water Database analysis of water quality data from nearly 50,000 U.S. water systems identified 324 contaminants in drinking water, including: 🔹 PFAS chemicals in water serving 140+ million people 🔹 Heavy metals, like arsenic and lead 🔹 Nitrate pollution from farm runoff 🔹 Volatile organic compounds (VOCs) 🔹 Disinfection byproducts 🔹 Radiological contaminants, like uranium and radium Despite growing evidence of these health hazards related to long-term exposure, many federal regulations haven’t been updated in decades. While most water systems comply with the legal federal standards, what is legal is not necessarily safe. How to Protect Yourself: 💧 Enter your ZIP code in our Tap Water Database to see what contaminants are in your water. 💧 Use our water filter guide to choose the right filter for your needs. 💧 Contact your local water authorities about treatment methods and violations. 💧 Push for stronger federal and state regulations. 💧 Consider getting your water tested if you use a private well. Safe water shouldn’t be a privilege – it's a right! 🔎 Find out what’s in YOUR water – enter your ZIP code now! ➡️ ewg.org/tapwater Read more: https://ewg.life/3QEgBcy #EWG #Tapwater #Arsenic #Lead #PFAS #Water #DrinkingWater

It's National Strawberry Day! 🍓 Strawberries are a beloved fruit, but did you know they’re also one of the most pesticide-contaminated produce items on our Dirty Dozen™ list? Tests have found residues from multiple pesticides on conventionally grown strawberries, even after washing. Buying organic, if you are able, is a great option to reduce pesticide exposure, but the most important thing is to eat plenty of fruits and vegetables no matter how they’re grown!
