How do we continue championing DEI in the face of potential risks? Now is the time to regroup, reaffirm our values, and unite together in solidarity. Thinking about Black History Month makes us think about Black people anywhere and everywhere. The impacts of climate change in Brazil, displaying intersectionality at its finest, affect Black women more than other segments of the population. Climate justice is not just an environmental issue; it's a human rights issue.   Our partner, Juliane Sousa, Quilombola Journalist and Communications and Marketing Manager at Sistema B Brasil, sheds light on the Brazilian context and gives us a glimpse into the types of intentional actions that can be taken. RECAP: AATIA Seminar Series - February Session We’re proud to be part of the AATIA community, where members and friends come together to connect, share knowledge, and build meaningful relationships. Our free bi-monthly general meeting, now known as the AATIA Seminar Series, was another warm and insightful gathering. This time, we had Richard Lee, a staff writer at the Texas Senate, share stories from his 20+ years of experience. He gave us a behind-the-scenes look at how his sharp attention to detail, critical thinking, and non-partisan mindset help deliver key information to Texans, like which bills are moving, what they mean, and how they affect our daily lives. We also heard from Verónica Chertcoff, a Spanish staff translator, who works closely with Richard to translate his work for the Spanish-speaking community. She talked about the challenges of translation, the value of teamwork between writers and translators, and kept everyone engaged with her thoughtful insights. In addition, AATIA is honored to partner with Austin Community College’s interpreter training program to provide a practice space for student interns studying ASL/English interpretation. Our seminars offer the perfect environment to apply classroom lessons and gain real-world experience. A special shout-out to Vanessa Vara, Jaida Scott, and Ravi Ramphal for their outstanding work in simultaneously interpreting for both speakers and the audience on Saturday. Well done!
