About us

Emory Moot Court Society is a competitive, student-led organization in which member students practice and develop their written and oral appellate advocacy skills. First-year students at Emory Law compete in the annual Stange Competition each Spring for the opportunity to gain membership. As 2Ls, members compete in another intraschool competition, after which 2L members are placed on one of EMCS' competition teams. Our competition teams travel to and compete in various interschool competitions throughout the country.

  • Congratulations to competitors Claudia Cornelison, Dean Mattschull, Katelyn Hunt, and Christopher Katrakis and coaches Cory Conley and Rachel Hendrix for placing in the top 16 teams in the world at the Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition during last week’s International rounds in Washington, D.C. This is the best an Emory team has ever done at Jessup, and there is so much to celebrate! The team advanced to Internationals after winning the U.S. Eastern National rounds in February. This year’s Jessup began with 642 teams from 85 countries, and, of those 642, only 150 teams qualified to compete at the international rounds. Individual recognition is due to 3L competitors Katelyn Hunt, who finished as Jessup’s Top Oralist in the world, and Christopher Katrakis, who was the 8th Best Oralist. Together, the two of them also won the Best Overall Respondent Side award. Special shoutouts are also due to 2L competitors Claudia Cornelison and Dean Mattschull, who remained undefeated across their national and international Jessup rounds. And lastly, this year’s success would not have been possible without the dedicated support of 3L coaches Cory Conley and Rachel Hendrix.
