Frontier’s support validates our mission to deliver measurable, permanent, and scientifically robust carbon removal today.” To achieve carbon removal at scale, we need solutions that optimize our existing way of life. Wastewater infrastructure naturally channels carbon into a closed-loop system, making it ideal for removal. Enhanced weathering holds massive potential for carbon removal, and at CREW we are leveraging this approach in wastewater treatment systems to enable rapid, scalable, and measurable carbon removal. Last week, U.S. Senators Michael Bennet (D-CO) and Lisa Murkowski (R-AK) introduced the Carbon Dioxide Removal (CDR) Investment Act in the U.S. Senate, a bipartisan tax initiative to accelerate the deployment of carbon dioxide removal solutions like CREW’s. The bill would: 1) Update the existing tax code to match the needs of today’s industry, where American companies are using a variety of methods to permanently remove carbon dioxide. Right now, many CDR companies are locked out of tax incentives due to outdated technicalities and the CDR Investment Act seeks to fix this with a new production tax credit. 2) By investing in diverse CDR approaches—including direct air capture, bioenergy with carbon capture and storage, and enhanced natural systems like CREW Carbon enhanced weathering method in wastewater treatment —the Act positions the United States as a global leader in advancing climate resilience and carbon removal. 3) This bill would provide further financial support, which would help scale CREW’s approach and business faster in the US while bringing more jobs to the communities we engage with. 📢 A call for supporting carbon removals in the next EU mandate Carbon Gap is joined by 44 other organisations in writing to Climate Commissioner-designate Wopke Hoekstra ahead of his confirmation hearing in the European Parliament urging him to adopt a set of policies to support a sustainable scale-up of carbon dioxide removal (CDR) in the next EU mandate. Here are our 4 key recommendations: 🎯 Set separate targets for emissions reductions and carbon removals in the revision of the Climate Law 📈 Boost CDR funding to scale up both early- and later-stage technologies 🔎 Provide clarity for buyers of CDR in the Green Claims Directive, strengthening the integrity of climate claims 📋 Create stable demand for carbon removals through a compliance market and long-term policy support Carbon removals are vital for reaching net zero. With the new European Commission being formed, this is a pivotal moment to ensure carbon removals become a pillar in Europe’s fight against climate change.
