Satellites need regular #calibration to ensure the data they collect is scientifically reliable. 🛰️ This month’s #CDSE Desktop Image takes us to the heart of the Namib Desert: the #Gobabeb calibration site, a key location in the global RadCalNet network. Captured by #Sentinel2 in November 2015, this stunning image blends natural beauty with scientific precision. 🌍 This image reveals a striking contrast between a golden sand “sea” and gravel plains, divided by the ephemeral Kuiseb River. Gobabeb is more than just a beautiful scene. 🌿🌊 Tomorrow is International Day for the Conservation of the #Mangrove Ecosystem! No better time to highlight the importance of these critical coastal ecosystems. Some key takeaways 👇 from our newest #CDSE image gallery item, showcasing the mangrove-dense coastline in the Pará and Maranhão states of northern Brazil: 🔹 Mangrove forests are among the most valuable ecosystems on Earth.
