The Copernicus Data Space Ecosystem (CDSE) is the next step in the evolution of Earth observation data. The ecosystem offers immediate access to large amounts of open and free Earth observation data from the Copernicus Sentinel satellites, including both new and historical Sentinel images, as well as Copernicus Contributing Missions. CDSE offers comprehensive browsing, interactive exploration, and in-depth processing capabilities to unlock the full potential of Earth observation data. CDSE aims to support users in building various applications needed to provide accurate, timely and objective information which are crucial to create a more sustainable future. As the primary source of Copernicus Sentinel data, CDSE integrates open APIs and standards such as STAC, OGC, and openEO. Designed for seamless integration and federation, CDSE allows users to design, prototype, and operate applications while maintaining control over data access, visualization, user identity, processing integration, and data privacy. The heatwave currently affecting Europe is captured in this mosaic image from the Copernicus Sentinel-3 mission’s Sea and Land Surface Temperature Radiometer, taken on 29 June. This mosaic reveals land surface temperatures — the actual thermal energy emitted from the Earth’s surface — which are typically higher than air temperatures. 💚 We did it! What an incredible experience it was to build #Europe together during #ESA #LPS25! Brick by brick based on #Sentinel data available via the #Copernicus Data Space Ecosystem. Thank you Simonetta Cheli, ESA EO team, #LPS25 organising committee and all participants for helping us build this incredible map of Europe. 🤝 But of course it was more than just bricks and fun. It was about connection, collaboration, and climate action. The Copernicus Land Monitoring Service (CLMS) has launched the first two products from its Land Cover and Forest Monitoring (LCFM) suite—a game-changing dataset offering unprecedented 10 m resolution for global land cover and forest tracking. 📍 The launch has took place just today, at the Living Planet Symposium (LPS) in Vienna. 🚀 What’s new? ✔️ Global Land Cover Map (10 m) – annual updates from 2020 to 2026 ✔️ Pan-Tropical Tree Cover Density Map (10 m) – vital for forest monitoring ✔️ Sub-annual updates – capturing seasonal changes and sudden events like deforestation or fires. 🔎 Powered by open data from Sentinel-1 and Sentinel-2, LCFM enables detection of land cover change at the scale of a football field—10x more precise than previous products. 📢 Open to all.
