Salary: $111,593 -$125,902 Job Posting Closes February 28, 2025 at 4:00pm (CST) Position Overview The Deputy Chief, under the leadership of the Fire Chief, serves as the second-in-command of the Southern Ozaukee Fire Department. This individual will play a critical role in planning, directing, and overseeing the operations and various divisions within the department. The Deputy Chief will assume the role of Fire Chief in the absence of the Chief, ensuring the continuous and effective administration and direction of the Fire Department. Key responsibilities include overseeing activities and services related to training programs, facility management, communication systems, staff management, budget administration, equipment allocation, and the inspection bureau. The Deputy Chief will be expected to provide leadership and ensure the successful execution of all departmental functions, maintaining the highest standards of safety, efficiency, and service to the community. Use this link for more information. Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree or master's degree in fire administration or a related field (administration, leadership, emergency management, etc.). Minimum of five (5) years progressively responsible fire service experience with a minimum of two (2) years as a Captain or above. The ideal candidate will have a resume that demonstrates a progressive gain in responsibility, 10 years of experience. Characteristics of the Job: Under the direction of the Director of Community Development and the Inspections Supervisor, the Inspector performs skilled inspection work in enforcing compliance with the City Building Code, State Building Code, State Electrical Code, City Plumbing Code, State Plumbing Code, Zoning Code and other related city ordinances. This position is responsible for inspection and enforcement of all construction related codes of the City of Mequon and the Wisconsin Department of Safety and Professional Services. Position Overview, Skills & Abilities: Authority and responsibility for interpreting all relevant codes and ordinances (City and State Building Code, Heating, Ventilating and Air Conditioning Code; Electrical Code, City and State Plumbing Code, City Zoning Code and other related City ordinances) Reviews applications and plans for permits. Issues permits and work with applicants to achieve code compliance. Conducts inspections in all new construction, remodeling, additions and alterations. Investigates, inspects and resolves hazards, complaints or violations. Inspects existing buildings for hazards related to life safety and welfare. Documents all inspections utilizing City software. Performs administrative tasks relative to inspection work having knowledge of the operation of office equipment and computer file and record input and retrieval. Supports the Department of Community Development regarding policy and procedures. Makes recommendations made to various boards and commissions. Required Training & Experience: Experience in construction, heating, electrical and/or plumbing trades, completion of course work at an accredited college or university in the areas of building construction, engineering or related field or any combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Ideal applicants will hold State of Wisconsin Certification as a UDC and Commercial Plumbing Inspector. UDC Building Inspector, Commercial Building Inspector, UDC Electric, HVAC, Commercial Electric is a plus. Salary & Benefits: The starting salary is $65,969 - $77,513 +/- DOQ. Overall salary range is $65,969 - $89,057.
