Yesterday marked an important milestone for the City of Manteca as we held our annual Goals and Priorities workshop, envisioning a transformative future with the successful passage of Measure Q. We are excited to channel this momentum into meeting the needs of our community and setting a strategic path for 2025 and beyond. At the forefront of our commitments, enhanced public safety measures will benefit from Measure Q, allowing us to bolster law enforcement, fire services, and emergency response strategies, ensuring a safer Manteca for all. With clear priorities outlined in our meeting, we are eager to invest in critical infrastructure upgrades. From road enhancements to sustainable transit solutions, we aim to build a resilient city that supports growth and improves everyday life. Recognizing the importance of a strong workforce, Measure Q will help us address staffing across various departments, enhancing service delivery and operational efficiency for our community. As we embrace these priorities, our commitment remains firm: transparency, collaboration, and community engagement will guide us in fulfilling our shared vision. Thank you to CBS Sacramento’s Carmela Karcher for a great story on a major milestone for the San Joaquin Council of Governments’ State Route 99/120 Connector project in Manteca. The much-needed work has begun! The pivotal work to remove the 1950s-era Austin Road overcrossing, or bridge, in Manteca is the next major step in the highway-to-highway State Route 99/120 Connector project overseen by the San Joaquin Council of Governments (SJCOG). The project will replace overcrossing with a longer structure spanning a wider State Route 99 and Union Pacific Railroad tracks. In the long run, the work will improve safety, ease traffic congestion, enhance mobility and goods movement, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions for better air quality. The overcrossing closure and detour are required so motorists can safely drive around the work and will be in place for about a year and a half. 📣 Join us in recognizing Avneet Mahil, the City of Manteca’s new Deputy Public Works Director! 📣   Avneet joined the City of Manteca in 2019 as a Solid Waste Supervisor, where she focused on building a strong team within the Solid Waste Division. During the COVID-19 pandemic, she also played a key role in the Emergency Operations Center, supporting public information and other departments.   In July 2020, Avneet was promoted to Solid Waste Manager, where she continued to grow as a leader. She led efforts to enhance customer service, implement the Solid Waste Rate Study, expand public outreach through social media, and support key city projects and initiatives.   For the past year, she has served as Interim Deputy Director, taking a team-first approach as she stepped into new responsibilities, including Fleet Maintenance. Some of her major accomplishments in this role include launching the 3-cart weekly collection system for solid waste, recycling, and organics; securing a lease-to-own program for commercial fleet vehicles; and strengthening customer service both internally and externally.   Congratulations on your new role, Avneet! 👏   #TeamManteca #CityofManteca #MantecaCA #LeadershipSpotlight
