About us
Hillsboro is one of Oregon’s most diverse and dynamic cities, with a steadily growing population of just over 110,000. During the workday, more than 50,000 employees commute to Hillsboro by car, bicycle, bus, or MAX Light Rail train to work at companies such as Intel, Nike, and Genentech. Hillsboro is the largest city in Washington County and serves as the county seat. Ideally located in the Pacific Northwest — 10 miles west of Portland — Hillsboro is an hour’s drive from the beautiful Cascade Mountains and Columbia River Gorge to the east, and the sandy beaches of the Pacific Ocean to the west. Known as the “high-tech hub of Oregon” or the “tallest tree in the Silicon Forest,” Hillsboro has some of the best land, power, and water resources in the country. With its thriving economy, Hillsboro is the home of: - Oregon’s fourth-largest school district - Two higher-education campuses - Two public libraries - More than 30 parks - More than 1,500 acres of designated green spaces, including Jackson Bottom Wetlands Preserve and the Orenco Woods Nature Park

The Hillsboro City Council has selected Cristian Salgado to be the Council’s seventh member following applicant interviews this week. Salgado will fill the vacancy created by Mayor Beach Pace’s election in November after he is sworn in as a City Councilor during the January 21 meeting. Ahead of a January 7 deadline, the City received 10 Council vacancy applications from residents in Council Ward 1 — Jones Farm, Tanasbourne, AmberGlen, Orenco Station, and other north and east side neighborhoods. Salgado has lived in Hillsboro’s Hawthorne Farm neighborhood since 2021. His family immigrated to Oregon from Michoacán, Mexico, when he was five years old and he is bilingual in Spanish. In filling the City Council term that expires in January 2027, Salgado will be eligible to serve two full terms in office beyond his appointment if he chooses to seek election to the Council in November 2026 and re-election in November 2030. “I am honored to be selected by the Council to serve the City of Hillsboro,” Salgado said following his appointment. “As I reflect on my experience through this process, and the time I’ve invested to get here, I feel a great sense of pride and accomplishment. I worked hard for this opportunity, and I will continue to bring that same work ethic to the Council. "I also appreciate all the other applicants that had the courage to apply for this role. I think it is a great sign for the city that so many people wanted to serve in this position.” Learn more about Cristian: https://lnkd.in/gjrmhNPW

Hillsboro City Councilor and Mayor-elect Beach Pace is one of only 24 newly elected mayors to be selected for the prestigious Bloomberg Center for Cities at Harvard University’s Program for New Mayors: First 100 Days. Designed to empower mayors during their critical transitions and first 100 days in office, the Program for New Mayors equips participants with strategic insights to sharpen their leadership and management skills. “I’m honored to be chosen to be part of this group training at Harvard University’s Kennedy School,” said Mayor-elect Pace, after taking part in a two-day immersive classroom experience. “Hearing from mayors from all over the country — seasoned mayors, who have handled challenges in their communities — was very valuable for all of us newly elected mayors. Our training, provided by Harvard professors and members of Bloomberg Philanthropies, was excellent.” Read more: https://lnkd.in/dMAugZjv
