Nothing warms our hearts like these handwritten notes from the students at Liberty Elementary School. They absolutely made our day! 🚒❤️ We had a fantastic time sharing what it’s like to be a firefighter and seeing their enthusiasm for future careers. Their words of gratitude—for not only showing them our profession but also for saving lives and protecting our county—mean the world to us. We hope these students stay brave, dream big, and maybe one day, we’ll see some of them in uniform! Charlotte County Public Schools

Hands-on training for real-world fire suppression! We had the opportunity to host a Lithium Battery Fire Suppressant demo at our Public Safety Headquarters, where our team actively participated in the training. During the demonstration, a lithium battery went into full thermal runaway, but the FCL-X system extinguished the fire in just 4 minutes using ~250 gallons of water—without re-ignition! A big thank you to the FCL-X team for sharing their expertise. Training like this helps us stay prepared to serve our community.

Congratulations to Tina Powell, our December 2024 Employee of the Month! With nearly 20 years of service, Tina has been a driving force in protecting Charlotte County’s natural resources and enhancing recreational spaces. Her leadership in gopher tortoise conservation helped establish Tippecanoe Environmental Park as a certified recipient site, setting a statewide precedent with the county’s Habitat Conservation Plan. Tina’s impact goes beyond conservation—she’s also led playground improvements, adding shade structures to create safer play areas for families. Notably, Tina spearheaded a radio telemetry study on gopher tortoises at Tippecanoe. Thanks to her research, Charlotte County successfully demonstrated to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission that a previously unsuitable site was, in fact, actively used by tortoises. Tina truly embodies Charlotte County’s CARES values—whether managing land, responding to emergencies, or supporting her team. Thank you, Tina, for your passion and dedication! 👏

This week, the Charlotte County Landfill, Utilities and Keep Charlotte Beautiful had the opportunity to host students from Port Charlotte High School’s Cambridge AICE Environmental Management program at our Waste Management facility! 🌎♻️ Students got a firsthand look at the innovative, layered solutions used in modern landfills to safely manage our county’s waste. They learned how our wastewater treatment process helps recharge the aquifer, supporting local water conservation efforts. They also saw how methane gas from decomposing waste is captured and converted into electricity to help power homes in the community. One of the highlights? Watching our team demonstrate how we crush and compact large items—like boats! 🚤 This hands-on experience gave students a deeper understanding of the critical role solid waste and utilities plays in sustainability and environmental responsibility.

This week, Firemedic Aleta Stadel had the honor of participating in Literacy Week at Peace River Elementary! She joined in on the fun by reading to the students and brought along a special firefighter-themed book: Pete the Cat: Firefighter Pete by James Dean. 🚒🐱🔥📚 Check out these moments from her visit! We love sharing the importance of reading and fire safety with our community’s youngest learners. 📖👨🚒
