We regulate a variety of financial services, products, professionals, and oversee the operations of state-licensed financial institutions, including banks, credit unions, money transmitters, issuers of payment instruments and travelers checks, and premium finance companies. Another CalMoneySmart award announcement! East Bay Asian Local Development Corporation (EBALDC) received a $160,000 grant last month. This partnership provides vital financial support and resources for underserved communities in the Oakland area. Last month, we awarded Self-Help for the Elderly a $320,000 CalMoneySmart Grant. The grant will support financial education and counseling for Chinese-speaking seniors in San Francisco. FBI Assistant Special Agent in Charge Agustin Lopez provided an overview of fraud and scams targeting seniors in the community. Community members shared testimonies and challenges. The event was joined by the Office of California State Assemblymember Matt Haney, along with the DFPI grants team: Elizabeth Smith, Deputy Commissioner of Public Affairs; Julie Michaelson, MPA, Grants Manager, and key members from Self-Help for the Elderly, including Anni Chung, CEO and President. We are thrilled for this partnership and look forward to enhancing the financial wellness of seniors!
