During the Spring 2024 Semester, BYUI student Janie England had the opportunity to intern in the U.S. Senate through the BYUI Washington, D.C. Internship Summit. She shared with us some highlights of her time as an intern on Capitol Hill. 🏛️ Q: What did you enjoy most about being an intern in Washington, D.C.? A: I loved having opportunities to do exciting things in and out of work. For example, my office provided us special tours to the Pentagon and White House, and we were able to go to the reading room in the Library of Congress and the Capitol after dark. It’s very unique working here. Q: What did you learn from your internship in Washington, D.C.? A: I learned a lot about careers available on the Hill and in D.C. in general. I worked for a Wyoming office and was surprised at the opportunities in the state. For Wyoming to be so small but so impactful is really cool. It’s important to me to find a job in something I’m passionate about. Q: Would you recommend the BYU-I Washington, D.C. Internship Summit to students? A: Absolutely. It's comforting to have housing with people from your school and with the same religious beliefs. It's like a home away from home. We go out every weekend to explore new museums, and it is never boring. Are you interested in completing an internship in Washington, D.C.? Find out more at https://lnkd.in/g5sW4QWw or come see us in the BYUI Career Center (200 MC). Applications for the spring cohort are due April 15, but it's never too soon to apply! #byui #washingtondc #internship #apply

🎓 Yesterday, we celebrated the incredible achievement and the culmination of years of hard work, dedication, and perseverance of 3,090 graduates at Brigham Young University - Idaho. 🎓 At the Commencement ceremony, President Meredith announced that this is the largest graduating class in the history of BYU-Idaho. 🎉 Elder Clark G. Gilbert, General Authority Seventy and Commissioner of the Church Educational System of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, gave the Commencement address. He encouraged graduates to continue to be responsible for their own learning and growth. “We learn most effectively when we have opportunities to act and use our agency. The ability to act, to choose, to take ownership, and to be responsible for our own learning increases our use of agency. Your ability to act and take responsibility for your learning will be far more important than the choice of a specific major or minor or any job skill you may have acquired to this point in your life.” As you step forward into the next exciting chapter of your lives, we at the Career Center want to extend our heartfelt congratulations and best wishes for your future endeavors. Our resources and networks will continue to be there to help you achieve your career aspirations. Congratulations! Photo credit: BYUI Photo #graduation #byui #byuialumni #continuelearning

The BYU-Idaho Career Center was packed yesterday for an information session about IDS 297R, a class that gives students real-world experience through project-based internships. In this class, students are assigned to work in small groups to complete a company-directed project. Additionally, students receive academic credit, and for some majors, it can fulfill internship requirements. Space for students for the Winter 2025 semester is still open! Register for IDS 297R to get started. To find out more, visit https://lnkd.in/gVDDfBjA or come see us in the Career Center (200 MC). #projectbasedinternships #experientiallearning #internships #byui #byuidaho

Meet Anna Hutchings! 🌟 She recently completed a congressional internship as part of the BYUI Washington, D.C. Internship Summit. In our Q&A with her, Anna shared that as a congressional intern she learned about legislative work, attended briefings and hearings, and even gave tours of the U.S. Capitol. 🏛 Q: What do you do in your internship? A: I give Capitol tours, take constituent phone calls, attend briefings and write memos, attend hearings, work on various projects for staffers, research topics, and draft constituent correspondences. Q: What have you learned from your internship in Washington, D.C.? A: With a bachelor’s degree in Sociology, I hadn't learned too much about the political processes. I've learned a ton about legislative work, bill language, communicating with Idaho’s constituents, and the history of Capitol Hill. Q: How did you find your internship? A: I started searching for internships in the D.C. area months in advance. The summer is especially competitive, which is why it’s nice that BYU-I has a 3-track system, which opens up more doors. I went on the D.C. expedition in March and applied to all the offices in the Idaho delegation beforehand and was able to interview in person while on the trip. I recommend using the Career Center as a resource during this process. There is still time to apply to be an intern in D.C. just like Anna! The deadline for the Winter 2025 semester cohort is December 15. 📅✨ Apply here: https://lnkd.in/g5sW4QWw #byui #internship #washingtondc #uscapitol #apply
