Billy Penn at WHYY really picked the best spokesperson to defend science last Friday when they flagged down Melina Blees at the #MarchForScience! https://lnkd.in/eQbmVFx2 "Dr. Melina Blees, site director of BioLabs Philadelphia and a strong supporter of the rally, expressed disappointment over the ongoing NIH funding crisis, which has frozen $1.5 billion from the U.S. biomedical research enterprise since January. BioLabs Philadelphia, a biotechnology incubator space on Walnut Street, provides support to early-stage companies, many of which rely on federal research grants to innovate and grow. 'What lacks in this country is basic scientific understanding, and this is hurting us,' Blees said." We're lucky to have Melina as an advocate, and I'm grateful for all the others who showed up last week to defend science following the government's layoffs and threats to cut NIH funding. I may not be a scientist but I know I am very lucky to be surrounded by scientists every day whose research is critical to finding live saving treatments.
