INVESTING IN HIGH-PERFORMING, WOMEN-LED COMPANIES Currently investing from Astia Fund I - a $32M Series A/B fund that is sector and geography agnostic. For twenty years, Astia has carved a unique path to source, screen and invest in the top performing companies. Astia’s proprietary Expert Sift™ deal sourcing and screening process is a robust, data-driven methodology that uses best-in-class tools and wisdom-of-the-crowd techniques to eliminate bias. To successfully address the intersectionality of race and gender, Astia established a clear focus on investing in women of color. Grounded in deep domain expertise, exceptional investment performance, a belief in the value of women as leaders and a proprietary investment process, Astia invests via a family of funds. Throughout its twenty years, Astia has paved the way for investors to align human values with investment rigor. Understanding the fundamentals of change, Astia has built an institution to last. Through a variety of investment vehicles, Astia enables investment at all stages of private company growth. With an acute understanding of the unique challenges of high-growth, Astia ensures portfolio success. We are entrepreneur-centric and hands-on. By investing with Astia, Limited Partners expand their legacy of impact. Founded by tech pioneer Catherine Muther in 1998, Astia has never wavered from its fundamental commitment to level the investment playing field. Still today, less than 10 percent of VC investments are made into companies that include even one woman leader. We believe in investment as a force for change.

CNote is excited to share the first clip from our recent webinar with Impact Finance Center and the incredible Dr. Stephanie Gripne, and Inclusiv. Thank you for hosting such an important conversation! In this segment, CNote CEO Catherine Berman challenges the outdated perception that community investing comes with greater financial risk. The truth? Community banks and credit unions don’t just outperform big banks in impact—they often outperform them in financial strength. 💬 “When you look at the data, community banks and credit unions often have stronger balance sheets, and better risk mitigation.” – Catherine Berman. 🎥 Watch the video clip to learn more! #ImpactInvesting #CommunityFinance #ImpactCash #InvestWithPurpose #CNote #FinancialInclusion #SocialImpact #BankForGood #InvestingForChange #webinar

A landmark study in the International Journal of Gynecological Cancer has revealed crucial insights into ovarian cancer risk factors, analyzing data from over 220,000 women in the U.K. Biobank. The research identified several modifiable risk factors: pregnancy history and oral contraceptive use were found to lower risk, while body composition and specific blood characteristics influenced risk levels. Most significantly, researchers discovered blood biomarkers that may be present years before cancer diagnosis, validating the potential for early detection through blood-based testing. At AOA Dx, this aligns perfectly with our mission - we're using AI-powered, multi-omic liquid biopsy diagnostics to aid in the detection of ovarian cancer at its earliest stages. By integrating these predictive factors into our diagnostic approach, we're working to transform early detection and improve patient outcomes. Check out the article and study included:
“We’re removing gut-based decisions. The problem is not women - it’s the barriers within investment and networks” Evie Mulberry, one of our Managing Partners at Astia, speaking with Lucy Tobin about how the Astia Expert Sift eliminates bias in sourcing, screening, and investing in top-performing #startups. "I don’t think any hard-nosed investors actually believe the “research” which claims female-led firms outperform male rivals. This whole article is just gender-baiting clickbait." That's the first comment under the line on my piece in The Times today addressing this issue: Female-led firms outperform rivals. So why is raising cash so hard? In the cutthroat world of finance, male investors tend to back male-run companies. Women even face different types of questions when pitching for money. Of the £8 billion of UK equity investment in the first half of 2024, fully female-founded teams received just £145 million — 1.8 per cent of the total — according to the research firm Beauhurst. All-male teams secured £6.92 billion, or more than 86 per cent. I used reputable research and spoke to experts including founders, investors (male and female), and academics. In the resulting piece, there was fascinating evidence and anecdotes (the woman founder told to demonstrate a condom didn't think a man would have been told the same, for example. The male investor revealed some of the misogynistic whispers when women weren't there.) But still, 'this is rubbish', say many of the comments. "With women receiving less than 2% of VC funding, we have to be robust, focused and wear suits of Teflon," says Joanna Jensen. Fascinating insight from Debbie Wosskow, OBE - whose taskforce hopes to transform the current stats - and Lemon Fuller, Farah K., Marta Zaccagnini, Janthana Kaenprakhamroy, Michelle He, PhD, CFA, Evie Mulberry - grateful to you all for your time. #femalefounders #investmentgap #SME Link in comments - what do you think?
