Survey says: This is a good year to be a materials handling professional. According to the 17th annual Materials Handling Salary Survey, compensation is on the upswing and the average turnover rate has dropped. The survey also found that more than 25% of respondents have worked for their current employer for over 20 years and 24% for 10-20 years. With a huge amount of variability in #foodmanufacturing, especially in proteins and produce, #artificialintelligence can go a long way to making #vision systems more effective. At #AISA2024, Harley Green, VP of Strategic Accounts at Oxipital AI, explained some of the capabilities and opportunities for #AI based vision systems. Key benefits of AI-based vision include reduced dependence on #labor, increased #yield, increased #quality, and reduced waste and rework. Green presented a use case with a company processing chicken breasts, where saving even just a gram of product can have a massive impact by the end of the year. Switching from high trim to low trim, for example, human operators are very likely to over trim. That can equate to millions of dollars for each of these producers. In another case, Green showed how a company making eggrolls could save close to $7 million a year just by putting the AI-based vision on before the relatively expensive filling is dispensed – scrapping about $187,200 worth of eggroll wrappers rather than over $7 million of filling.
