Our support of programs that #AccelerateAction by enhancing access, mentorship, and professional development extends far beyond #InternationalWomensDay. At Reinventing the Future, the ASME Foundation’s third annual celebration of our progress in engineering, we'll celebrate Dr. Patsy Brackin for her achievement as the 2024 Kate Gleason Award recipient. Dr. Brackin's experience as Program Director for Engineering Design and Professor of Mechanical Engineering at the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology and beyond has helped break barriers and create more pathways in STEM. We'll also be highlighting four outstanding ASME Fellows with 2024 Dedicated Service Awards: • Dr. Robin Coger - Professor of Engineering at East Carolina University • Dr. Carolyn Winstead Meyers - President emerita of Jackson State University • Dr. Sonya T. Smith - Executive Director, Research Institute for Tactical Autonomy (RITA) UARC, Howard University • Dr. Tahira Reid Smith - Professor, Mechanical Engineering and Engineering Design, Penn State University

In celebration of National #EngineersWeek2025, the ASME Foundation hosted "Houston, We Have a Solution," a series of events in South Texas. These events supported the Foundation's goal of inspiring the next generation of engineers through hands-on experiences and mentorship. Here's a look at #EWeek2025 in Houston: ASME DropMEIn! brought engineering to life for students at Hicks Elementary School, where Liping Le from Ansys guided 4th graders through the engineering design process with a hands-on autonomous vehicle challenge. Over at the Young Women's College Preparatory Academy, Williams sponsored an opportunity for 10th and 11th-grade students, as well as 2024-2025 ASME President Susan Ipri-Brown, to attend an engineering class! At Lone Star College, an interactive EFx event connected students with industry leaders through design competitions, career workshops, and networking opportunities, inspiring the next generation of innovators. During the Showcasing Excellence in Engineering reception, the Foundation honored Dr. Paul Biney, professor of mechanical engineering at Prairie View A&M University, with the Outstanding Student Section Advisor Award for his leadership of the university's ASME Student Section. Kenneth Warren, retired vice president of engineering at ExxonMobil, also received the Alexander Holley Medal for his contributions to engineering. Adding even more fun to the mix, ASME Board of Governors member Jared Oehring hosted a golf-themed fundraiser at Topgolf. 60+ attendees enjoyed dinner, a brief program, and a round of indoor golf, in addition to hearing from Michelle Delk, a graduate engineering student at The University of Texas at Austin, shared how ASME scholarships shaped her education. The ASME Foundation and STEM Global Action closed out the week with STEM Fest, engaging over 400 elementary and middle school students in 60+ hands-on engineering activities demonstrating key engineering concepts and igniting their imaginations. Thank you to our sponsors, Ansys and Evolution Motion Solutions, as well as our volunteers and staff, for making this week a success! #WorldEngineeringDay Photos: Rob Greer Photography

We're grateful for our involvement at the Sustainable Manufacturing Expo, which provided a key opportunity to showcase our dedication to addressing critical challenges in sustainable manufacturing and engineering. For a quick recap, check out this post from Iana Aranda ⬇️
Sustainability and Engineering Executive | Sustainability Strategy | Social Impact & Innovation | Global Teams and Leadership
What is sustainable manufacturing? Today it’s the confluence of digital transformation, energy efficiency, automation and improved productivity. It’s no surprise that if done well, the result is profit and sustainability gains. These were recurring themes at the inaugural Sustainable Manufacturing Expo, which brought together attendees representing the full spectrum of the sector. Some highlights: 📌 Digital transformation does not equate to job displacement. Manufacturers are struggling to secure the skilled workforce needed and find more people on the factory floor occupying evolving roles. Plus, integration of advanced tech is attracting early career job seekers 📌 The greenest energy is what you don’t use. Maximize Overall Equipment Efficiency (OEE) and minimize energy consumption for cost savings and reduction in carbon footprint. Leverage digital simulation to get there faster. 📌 Customer demand for emissions data and regulations are increasingly driving carbon accounting and disclosure but short term economic gains (ex. payback periods of <2 years) are blockers to the necessary sustainability investment Sustainable manufacturing has no shortage of challenges, but all signs point to progress. At ASME (The American Society of Mechanical Engineers) we are proud to do our part in shaping this future. #sustainability #manufacturing #SMExpo
