About us

Amazon is guided by four principles: customer obsession rather than competitor focus, passion for invention, commitment to operational excellence, and long-term thinking. We are driven by the excitement of building technologies, inventing products, and providing services that change lives. We embrace new ways of doing things, make decisions quickly, and are not afraid to fail. We have the scope and capabilities of a large company, and the spirit and heart of a small one. Together, Amazonians research and develop new technologies from Amazon Web Services to Alexa on behalf of our customers: shoppers, sellers, content creators, and developers around the world. Our mission is to be Earth's most customer-centric company. Our actions, goals, projects, programs, and inventions begin and end with the customer top of mind. You'll also hear us say that at Amazon, it's always "Day 1." What do we mean? That our approach remains the same as it was on Amazon's very first day - to make smart, fast decisions, stay nimble, invent, and focus on delighting our customers.

Quantum computing promises to solve problems that today's most powerful computers can't touch. But there's been one huge obstacle: quantum systems are incredibly fragile and prone to errors. Today marks a breakthrough. We just unveiled Ocelot, Amazon Web Services (AWS)'s new quantum chip that takes a completely different approach to this challenge. Our team used a novel design for Ocelot's architecture, building error correction in from the ground up, leveraging special quantum bits (called 'cat qubits'). They naturally resist errors, much like building immunity into the system itself rather than trying to fix errors after they happen. We're the first to successfully put this technology into an integrated microchip that can be manufactured using fabrication processes adopted from the microelectronics industry. That means we’ve reduced the resources needed for error correction by as much as 90%, accelerating our path to practical quantum computing by an estimated 5 years. Think of this like going from unreliable vacuum tubes to dependable transistors in early computing—a fundamental shift that turned possibilities into reality. From discovering new medicines faster, to developing better clean energy solutions, we're accelerating the path to real-world quantum computing. While there's still a lot more work ahead here, I'm super proud of the team's achievement. Check out this peek into our quantum lab where they've been working on Ocelot, and stay tuned for more! https://lnkd.in/gY-C2mSQ

Meet Alexa+, our next-generation AI assistant. No more transactional conversations, this upgraded Alexa+ is a personalized experience—it knows you, has fun, and can help get things done. Here are just a few ways it works: 🗣️ Alexa+ has agentic capabilities, but it’s more than an agent. It’s proactive; you can delegate tasks and it will take action on your behalf. Just like a real-life assistant, the more you interact with Alexa+ the better it gets. It can answer almost any question, and have a full-on conversation about almost any topic. 🤝 It works out-of-the-box with tens of thousands of services and devices you use in your daily life—GrubHub, OpenTable, Ticketmaster, Yelp, Thumbtack, Vagaro, Fodor’s, TripAdvisor, Amazon, Whole Foods Market, Uber, Spotify, Apple Music, Pandora, Netflix, Disney+, Hulu, Max, smart home devices from companies like Philips Hue, Roborock, and Lutron; and more. 💡 Alexa+ uses devices, context, and knowledge to create an intuitive, proactive, and simple smart home experience. You can control multiple smart devices with a single request, create Alexa Routines entirely by voice, and Alexa will even infer what you mean without an explicit request—like understanding it should adjust the temperature on your smart thermostat when you say you’re cold, or dim the lights when you say it’s too bright. Alexa+ costs $19.99 per month or free to all Amazon Prime members, and will start rolling out in the U.S. in the next few weeks. Love is in the air at Amazon! 💙 💍 When Beverlyn first joined Amazon, she had two big motivations—helping support her mom through chemotherapy and taking advantage of the company’s education benefits to build her future. Not long after, she encouraged her boyfriend, Casey, to apply too, knowing they could both pursue their degrees with Amazon’s financial assistance while working the same schedule. Even though they worked in different buildings, Beverlyn and Casey found creative ways to stay connected—whether it was through friendly competitions or just dreaming about their future together. Thanks to Amazon’s Career Choice program, which offers reimbursements for books and fees for front-line employees, Casey recently graduated with a degree in mechanical engineering, and Beverlyn is just one year away from earning her BA in data analytics and Public Relations! Congratulations to our very own Beverlyn and Casey on their recent engagement, and wishing everyone a happy Valentine's Day!

Never drop the ball on a Valentine's Day or birthday gift again with Same-Day Delivery. 📦 🌹 Last year, we delivered at our fastest speeds around the world, with over 9 billion items delivered the same day or next. How did we do it? We shortened delivery distances by optimizing our operations and transportation networks, dividing them into smaller, easier-to-serve regions, and stocking more of the products our customers want locally. To ensure we deliver quickly and safely, we invested over $750 million in technologies, resources, training, and programs to improve safety across our network. The result? Faster deliveries, broader selection, and big savings for Prime members, who saved over $95 billion globally on fast, free delivery in 2024.

I have made some unconventional choices in my career, but each risk has led me to even greater and unexpected opportunities. I've been very lucky, no doubt, but taking these kind of risks is how you "make your own luck." Taking what appeared to be a step back mid-career enabled me to find my way to Amazon, ultimately leading me to start the Pro Bono Program here at Amazon, serving people in our community the way I got the chance to serve families and children when I started my legal career. That program just turned 10 years old and I couldn't be more proud. Thank you, LinkedIn for featuring some of the insights I've learned along my winding journey.

"I decided to do what many thought was a step back in my career, and that changed everything." David Zapolsky started in the Brooklyn District Attorney's office, prosecuting sex crimes, child abuse and domestic violence cases. But a subsequent move into private practice at a BigLaw firm prompted a period of introspection, which gathered steam. As he gamed out the perfect trajectory, he realized it was not what he wanted out of life. With a clean break to Seattle, "Not only was I able to build a better family life, but I was also able to return to my roots of serving people in the community that were local clients with local problems," Zapolsky told Catalyst. It also set off a chain reaction that eventually landed him at Amazon where, a quarter century later, he's SVP for Global Public Policy & General Counsel. But it might never had been if he hadn't taken a step back. "If you know that the course of following the most prestigious position is ultimately not going to be fulfilling or happy for you," Zapolsky said, "you should take that signal seriously." "If you're not happy, where does that get you?"

We just released our Q4 and full year 2024 earnings, with fourth quarter revenue of $187.8B, up 10% year over year. Thanks to our customers, sellers, and employees around the world, we have much to be proud of from 2024. We achieved significant milestones in AI innovation, including our Nova foundation models and Trainium2. Prime members experienced our fastest delivery speeds ever, and a growing range of entertainment offerings – Thursday Night Football, Red One, Mr. Beast and more – and saved billions during our holiday shopping events. I look forward to all that we’ll continue to deliver for customers together in 2025. https://lnkd.in/g9wibT4E

When we launched Prime in 2005, with fast, free delivery, it changed customers’ expectations. We aim to keep exceeding their expectations to help members get what they need and want – at record speeds. I’m excited to share that in 2024, Amazon delivered at our fastest speeds ever for Prime members globally, with more than 9 billion units arriving the same or next day around the world. And Prime members saved more money than ever before – globally, members saved $95 billion in fast, free delivery. In the U.S., members saved an average of $500 in delivery fees.   A big thank you to the many teams across Amazon who have helped make this possible. And to Prime members for your continued trust in Amazon. https://lnkd.in/gMEJpXi5
