The Death of Algorithm Interviews: AI Fluency Is the New Technical Bar I just spoke with a Microsoft hiring manager, who confirmed what many of us suspected: Technical interviews are fundamentally changing. It's no longer about reversing binary trees or implementing quicksort from memory - companies are now evaluating how effectively you can leverage AI as a force multiplier for your development skills. The most valuable developers in 2025 won't be those who memorize algorithms but those who can: 1️⃣ Break down complex problems into AI-friendly components 2️⃣ Provide proper context and constraints to AI tools 3️⃣ Critically evaluate and improve AI-generated code 4️⃣ Balance AI assistance with sound architectural decisions According to recent research, 78% of hiring managers now prioritize AI problem-decomposition skills over algorithmic knowledge. This shift means we need to adapt how we prepare for technical interviews. I'm diving deep into this transformation in the latest edition of AI for Developers newsletter. 🚨 Developers and AI: The Real Story 🚨 The headlines scream, “AI will replace developers!” But that’s not the whole truth. 🧠 The future of software developers is about the race between automation and capital accumulation—a concept explored by economists Korinek and Suh. Here's the gist: 1️⃣ Automation advances rapidly, automating tasks and increasing productivity. 2️⃣ Capital accumulation (investments in infrastructure, tools, and training) determines whether AI creates new opportunities—or displaces jobs. 💡 Three Scenarios for Developers: 🌟 Scenario 1: Capital Keeps Pace AI augments, not replaces. Developers focus on higher-value tasks—becoming orchestrators, AI supervisors, and ethics specialists. 📈 Salaries rise steadily as demand grows. ⚡ Scenario 2: Automation Outpaces Capital Routine coding tasks disappear, mid-level roles shrink, and demand polarizes. Only elite developers thrive, while many struggle. 📉 Salaries stagnate or decline for most. 💡 Scenario 3: Capital Outpaces Automation Massive investments create demand for developers to design and deploy AI systems. Creativity becomes central, and salaries soar. 🌍 What’s Likely to Happen? Hardware bottlenecks, energy demands, and infrastructure constraints mean automation is unlikely to outpace capital consistently. Developers who adapt and evolve will be in the best position. 🚀 Here’s How You Can Stay Ahead: Use the Game-Changers Risk Matrix to focus your efforts: 📊 High-Impact, Short-Term: Master AI tools and prompt engineering to manage immediate disruptions like falling token costs. 🔮 High-Impact, Long-Term: Prepare for CoE models (AI architectures using expert systems) by learning AI orchestration, distributed systems, and microservices. 💻 Low-Impact, Short-Term: Use current hardware bottlenecks to deepen your cloud infrastructure and machine learning deployment expertise. 📜 Low-Impact, Long-Term: Stay informed on AI governance to navigate future compliance and ethical AI requirements. 🛠 Want to learn more about navigating this shift? My AiForDevelopers (A4D) Newsletter explores these scenarios and offers practical advice. 👉 Subscribe now to future-proof your career. https://lnkd.in/gCaSy9fC

🔥 What if I told you the next revolution in AI for software development isn't about bigger models but about rethinking the entire architecture? I've been researching emerging AI computing platforms, and I had a mind-blowing realization: We're approaching AI the same way we used to build monolithic applications—massive, all-purpose systems that try to do everything. But here's where it gets interesting ...... 🙇♂️ Just as we revolutionized software development by breaking down monoliths into microservices, a similar transformation is happening in AI through Composition of Experts (CoE). Think about it ....... 🤔 Instead of one massive model trying to do everything, CoE uses multiple specialized experts ‣ Each expert focuses on specific tasks (like syntax checking, security analysis, or performance optimization) ‣ A smart router directs tasks to the right expert ⚡️The game-changer? New hardware architectures like SambaNova's SN40L that can run up to 150 specialized AI models simultaneously on a single card! 🤯 For developers, this means: 🔸 Lightning-fast parallel processing for tasks like code generation, testing, and debugging 🔸 More accurate results since each expert specializes in a specific domain 🔸 Flexibility to update or add new experts without touching the entire system This could revolutionize how we build AI-powered developer tools. Imagine having multiple AI experts simultaneously analyze your code, suggest optimizations, and identify security vulnerabilities—all in real-time. 🔍 Want to dive deeper into how these emerging architectures are reshaping AI in software development? AI aha! Moment: When My 19-Year-Old Coded an AI System in 2 Weeks 🤯 Picture this: my son, fresh out of his first year in computer science, tells me he wants to build an AI-powered ad system that analyzes faces and displays targeted ads. 😲 I thought, "Okay, this will keep him busy all summer..." Fast forward two weeks... He's DONE! 🤯 He built the whole thing, from face recognition to cloud integration, using ChatGPT as his coding sidekick. 🤯 The future of coding is changing faster than what I thought! So, how do developers navigate this AI-powered landscape? 🤔 Here are my 3 key takeaways: 1️⃣ Embrace the the new Abstraction: AI is a new kind of abstraction. Coding will evolve similarly to the previous evolution cycles. This time AI's abstraction is proactively improving itself. Level up our thinking and focus on the bigger picture - the architecture, the user experience, and the problem we're solving. 🧠 2️⃣ The definition of a developer is changing very quickly. The no-code/low-code is happening faster than any startup prior to the AI anticipated. New entrants and different generation of developers are entering the game field. 3️⃣ Master the Fundamentals, then Innovate: AI is awesome, but it's not magic. Solid programming fundamentals are still the foundation of everything we build. Once you have that foundation, use AI to unleash your creativity and build solutions that truly make a difference. 🚀 AI Won't Replace You. It'll Make You Irreplaceable, with the right strategy! The Great Reshuffle: How AI is Redefining Dev Teams 🚀 When Our Code Starts Coding 🔄 Picture this: You're a developer, sitting at your desk, writing code that will shape the digital world. Now, imagine that very code you've written is about to revolutionize your profession. 🤯 Sounds like science fiction? Software developers, have created AI, and now it's coming back to disrupt our entire workflow. 💥 It's as if we've launched a missile that's changing course mid-flight, heading straight back to us. 🎯 Let's move past the naive argument of AI simply taking over jobs. 🙅♂️ The reality is far more nuanced and exciting. 🤩 The question isn't whether AI will replace us, but how it will reshape our teams and redefine our roles. 🤔 Now, let me share what I see: 1️⃣ The Rise of the AI Agents: Imagine AI-powered agents that work tirelessly, handling tasks that once required specialized roles like SRE, backend engineering, frontend development, and even security. ⚙️ These agents won't work in isolation but will take on increasingly complex tasks, working around the clock. ⏰ 2️⃣ From Coding to Orchestrating: As developers, our role will shift from writing every line of code to becoming conductors of a grand AI-powered symphony. 🎻 We'll guide these AI agents, review their work, and make critical decisions that bridge technology and business needs. 🌉 3️⃣ The Human Touch: Some roles will remain firmly in human hands – at least for the foreseeable future. Product management and engineering leadership, with their need for nuanced communication and complex decision-making, will continue to rely on human expertise. 🤝 The Three Phases of AI Integration in Dev Teams 🪜 🔸 The Cautious First Steps: AI agents start as super-smart deployment scripts, suggesting next steps but waiting for human approval. 🚦 🔸 The Collaborative Middle Ground: In this stage, AI agents gain situational awareness, producing code on the fly to fix problems. 🐛 However, humans still play a crucial role in reviewing and confirming these actions. ✅ 🔸 The Autonomous Future: Here's where things get really interesting. Agents become capable of writing code, executing it, and maintaining full situational awareness before and after. They adopt the OODA loop (Observe, Orient, Decide, Act), constantly iterating and improving. 🔁 Data-Rich Domains: Where AI Will Strike First 🎯 If you're wondering which areas of software development will feel the AI tremors first, follow the data. 📊 Areas rich in data are prime candidates for AI disruption. Operations and Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) work are likely to be at the forefront of this change. 🛠️ The rest of my analysis is in this week's A4D issue - linked in 1st comment what do you see when you look into the future of software development? 🔮 For more in depth analysis and opinions, subscribe to A4D newsletter https://bit.ly/3SGKSJd
