AFWERX, in collaboration with the 49th Maintenance Group from Holloman Air Force Base, Evitado Technologies, and TowFLEXX Miltech, is advancing aircraft towing operations through an AFWERX Phase II Small Business Innovation Research contract. The $1.25 million award supports the integration of electric, remote-controlled tugs equipped with Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) technology to enhance collision avoidance and towing efficiency for the MQ-9 Reaper. A recent demonstration at Holloman Air Force Base showcased the tug’s ability to reduce stress on landing gear, eliminate the need for a tail walker, and improve safety by maneuvering around obstacles and personnel. This groundbreaking work not only supports day-to-day operations at Holloman AFB but also aligns with the United States Air Force's broader goals for sustainability, cost reduction, and mission readiness. By enhancing safety and efficiency, this collaboration highlights AFWERX’s commitment to cultivating and transitioning impactful emerging technologies. ➡️ Read more: https://ow.ly/Tmt550Vbkxb . . . #AFWERX #Ventures #SBIR #USAF #DAF #DoD #AccelerateCapability #HollomanAFB #49thMaintenanceGroup #sustainablesolutions #towingoperations #innovation
