ITU-T Workshop on "From virtualization to cloud native: cloud computing for the Telco and coordination with ETSI NFV"

The International Telecommunication Union organized a workshop on “From virtualization to cloud native: cloud computing for the Telco and coordination with ETSI NFV”. The workshop was jointly organized by ITU Study Group 13 (SG13) and European Telecommunications Standards Institute – Industry Specification Group - Network Functions Virtualisation (ETSI ISG NFV). The event was taking place in the morning of 17 July 2025 at ITU headquarters from 09h00 to 13h00 CEST.

The workshop was organized in collocation with the SG13 co-located Rapporteur Group meetings, taking place at the same venue from 14-25 July 2024.

This workshop intended to offer the opportunity for discussion on the evolving landscape of modern network architectures and cloud technologies for the Telco business. The focus of the workshop was especially related to computing and network virtualization technologies like also topics related to management and orchestration. As industries shift from traditional virtualization to cloud native paradigms, the evolution of Network Functions Virtualization (NFV) to cloud native becomes crucial to support scalability, agility, and efficiency.

By exchanging views between ITU-T SG13 and ETSI NFV ISG on standardization topics, as well as jointly investigating solutions and best practices from the industry, a key objective of this workshop was to delve into the way forward for cloud-native Telco, investigating topics including but not limited to containerization, orchestration, and automation.

Participation in the workshop was open to all regular participants of ETSI ISG NFV and ITU-T SG13 meetings and to any individual interested in the topic who wishes to contribute to the work. Participation is free of charge.
