‘Sex in the shrubs’ not the only problem in the park

‘Sex debris’ left in the park’s shrubland
• I WRITE in response to the report (‘Lock up park to stop sex in shrubs’, Islington Tribune, March 21).
The Friends of Finsbury Park are rightfully saddened by the detritus found in bushes from people having sex in Finsbury Park.
But I question whether their displeasure has a patina of prudishness around it.
The anger should be focused on the condition of Finsbury Park generally, how all visitors treat it, and how residents and the council mitigate it.
Cruising in parks is a tale as old as time and will not cease any time soon, locked gates or not.
Anyone who wants to have sex in nature should treat nature as sacrosanct, and respect the ground they are on.
Cycling through Finsbury Park this week I saw no end of discarded cans, wrappers, fast-food boxes, and cigarette butts all over the place.
And while I think about it, my neighbours above me throw rubbish out of their windows.
The question is who exactly should we be most angry about?
