Disney’s Moana 2 is sailing to 4K Uhd and other physical media formats in March – and it comes with a lot of extras…
Disney had a pretty big year with Pixar’s Inside Out 2, Marvel’s Deadpool & Wolverine and Moana 2 topping the 2024 list of highest-grossing films. You’d think such a huge company had money to pay more attention to their blockbuster posters…
After a successful run in cinemas, Moana 2 is now heading to physical media formats. The animated sequel will be available on 4K Uhd, Blu-ray and DVD and you can also get a 4K Steelbook version. Those will all hit shelves on 17th March. You can pre-order that on Amazon. There will also be a box-set with both Moana and Moana 2 included.

“Moana 2” is now in theaters and just like it’s predecessor, it is chock full of original songs.
This time though, Lin-Manuel Miranda isn’t the one who wrote them. That task fell to Abigail Barlow and Emily Bear, professionally known as Barlow & Bear, for the sequel. They are the same songwriters responsible for creating “The Unofficial Bridgerton Musical,” among others.
Composers and co-songwriters Mark Mancina and Opetaia Foa’i do return for the “Moana 2” soundtrack though, lending a hand in creating the extensive song list.

In Moana 2, the new villain, Matangi, has a past, mysterious connection with Maui, and the creative team has weighed in. The highly anticipated sequel to 2016's Moana continues the adventures of the titular character as she navigates new challenges. While much of the first film focused mostly on Moana's journey, the sequel will introduce more dynamic characters, including Matangi, who has an intriguing and playful rivalry with Maui. Matangi, voiced by Awhimai Fraser, is introduced as a cunning supernatural being who shares centuries of backstory with Dwayne Johnson’s demi-god.
In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, the co-directors of the film, David G. Derrick, Dana Ledoux Miller, and Jason Hand shared some playful insights about the dynamic between Matangi and Maui, saying that their relationship is "open to interpretation." In their own words:
Derrick: There is history.
Miller: It's open to interpretation.
Hand: They've been around for a while.

Walt Disney Animation Studios’ “Moana 2” is finally here.
The sequel to 2016’s Oscar-nominated animated musical sees Moana (Auliʻi Cravalho) venturing out on an even-more-dangerous mission – to find a mythical island called Motufetū that has been shrouded by a demigod’s curse. If she can get to the island, she thinks she can open up the channels between her home and everyone else out there (actually based on historical occurrences). She assembles a larger crew, with both Hei Hei and Pua on the journey, and, of course, Maui (Dwayne Johnson) also shows up to help the cause.
This being a Disney animated movie, there is of surely a happy ending. But there’s a mid-credits sequence that does throw into question just how happy that ending really is.
Let’s get into what the mid-credits sequence means and how it could impact future installments of Disney’s seafaring franchise.

This article contains spoilers for "Moana 2."
"Moana" is arguably the best film from Walt Disney Animation Studios in the last 10 years, which meant "Moana 2" had a pretty massive shadow cast upon it from the very beginning. Originally intended to be a sequel series for Disney+, "Moana 2" was announced as a theatrical feature back in February 2024, and the House of Mouse has been keeping plot details pretty close to the chest. Back in August, a trailer was unleashed during the D23 celebration, which gave fans a look at a more mature Moana, the introduction of her little sister Simea, the crew joining her on her new journey, her reunion with the demigod Maui, the return of the Kakamora, and a mostly unseen threat, cloaked in dark purple light, that challenges everyone's favorite wayfinder. Not much is known about this movie's Big Bad, which will likely be a great...

The following contains spoilers for Moana 2, now playing in theatersMoana 2's soundtrack builds on the music of Moana and expands the scope to a whole new set of characters. A key part of Moana's massive success in 2016 and beyond was thanks to the soundtrack. With artists like Lin-Manuel Miranda on writing duties, songs like "How Far I'll Go" and "You're Welcome" became certifiable hits. It's a tall order to match for Moana 2's songwriters Abigail Barlow and Emily Bear, who do solid work with a number of new tracks.
Some of Moana 2's new characters get great little musical showcases, like Awhimai Fraser's incredibly fun villain song. Other tracks are more direct connections to the Polynesian culture and history that helped inspire and flesh out the world of Moana. It's a solid number of additions to the Disney canon of songs. Just like with such animated sequels as Inside Out 2 coming out nearly 10 years after their predecessors, Moana 2 has big shoes to fill, arriving eight years and some change almost to the day that the original animated adventure hit theaters. Still, leaning into humor and its arguably higher stakes, it delivers a firm follow-up to 2016’s Moana, a smash that grossed $643.3 million at the global box office and was nominated for a Best Animated Feature Oscar.
In Moana 2, the titular heroine (voiced again by Auli‘i Cravalho) is tasked with a mission bigger than anything she has faced before: locating the lost island of Motufetū in order to reunite the different communities of island peoples and navigators through the central meeting point location, which was shrouded by the storm god Nalo with a curse. On the heels of the successful original animation, a lot is riding on Moana 2, a sequel that nicely builds on what came before. Moana (Aulii Cravalho) gets a sweet little sister, Simea (Khaleesi Lambert-Tsuda), and that personal element really raises the stakes in terms of what the title character is fighting for and who shes trying to get back to. The animation is still strong and the main character beats are affecting, but there are certain aspects of the story namely, the villain and his motivations that stand in the films way of true greatness.
Moana 2 is the sequel to the 2016 animated film Moana. Directed by David G. Derrick Jr., Jason Hand, and Dana Ledoux Miller, the film continues the journey of Moana as she embarks on new adventures, exploring the vast Pacific Ocean while encountering new characters and challenges along the way.

At the end of “Moana,” which came out eight years ago, our plucky Polynesian heroine-who’s-not-a-princess had defeated the giant lava monster Te Kā and returned the heart of Te Fiti, the moss-green goddess of nature. An eager but untested island girl, Moana became a wayfinder, restoring her lush tropical home and discovering, along the way, that her people had always been voyagers. She also bonded with the bickering but insecure refrigerator-bodied hunk demigod Maui, helping to restore his power as well. All in all, she accomplished quite a bit, which may leave you wondering: What’s left for Moana to do in the sequel?
That’s a silly question, of course, since the premise of a movie like “Moana 2” is that a team of screenwriters are going to put their heads together and come up with a whole lot of seismic new saving-the-world hoops for Moana to jump through.

It's hard to overstate the phenomenon that Walt Disney Animation's "Moana" has become since its release in 2016. /Film's own Ethan Anderton gave the first film a whopping 10 out of 10 perfect score, it became the most-streamed movie across any platform in 2023, and it's widely accepted that the music from "Moana" remains some of the best in Lin-Manuel Miranda's oeuvre. Honestly, it's a bit shocking that Disney waited as long as they did to return to the ocean-deep well with a continuation of Moana's story, perhaps even more so that the House of Mouse's original intention was a direct-to-streaming series rather than the theatrical sequel we have today. Fortunately, much like "Frozen II," "The Incredibles 2," and "Toy Story 4," we may not have needed a sequel, but at least the one we got is enjoyable and manages to actually push the story forward.

Disney’s dropped the official music video for “Beyond,” the end credit track from the family-friendly animated sequel Moana 2. Grammy Award-winning songwriters Abigail Barlow and Emily Bear (Barlow & Bear) wrote “Beyond” and Auli‘i Cravalho sings the song which tells the story of Moana’s journey and her connection to her beloved island.
“During the process of writing this, we spoke to a lot of people who come from Oceania and the Polynesian Islands, and what rings true to all of them is their deep connection to their heritage and how they honor their ancestors. No matter how daunting this journey is to Moana, she can’t refuse it. It scares her but also exhilarates her because it’s a call from the ancestors. John Travolta’s daughter Ella Bleu Travolta paid tribute to her late mother Kelly Preston with a touching new song, “Little Bird.”
In the ballad, Ella sings about the weight of grief, wishing she could hear mom say, “My little bird, don’t you cry, hear my lullaby it’ll be alright.” The visuals accompanying the song feature a compilation of home videos giving a glimpse at the Travolta family’s joyful moments, including birthdays, plane rides, trips to Times Square’s since-shuttered Toys R Us and swims in their pool.
A day before releasing the track, Ella wrote on Instagram, “‘Little Bird’ is about a beautiful time in my life. I spent the last two years thinking about what I wanted this song to be, only for it to be written over night. This song is about the celebration of life.”
Her dad commemorated the song’s release on social media,...

Fans will apparently not be listening to Kanye West’s new album Donda 2 on any streaming platforms. The rapper confirmed he will exclusively debut the music via his Stem Player device before unveiling the album’s 22-song track list on Instagram a few hours later.
West said in a lengthy statement on Instagram that fans should acquire Stem Player, now in its second generation, “to be a part of the revolution.” The Stem Player retails for $200 and allows users to customize tracks by isolating the different instruments and vocals on a song.

When producer Robert Lantos began developing the big-budget historical drama series “Rise of the Raven,” adapting Hungarian author Bán Mór’s series of bestselling novels presented obvious challenges. “It’s an 11-volume novel, each volume being 500-600 pages long,” says Lantos. It took several writers and the better part of a decade to find a way forward, something the producer describes as “finding a creative solution to a jigsaw puzzle.”
