    Getting deeper with every episode

After catching a few random episodes on TV over the past few years, I settled in to watch the series from the beginning.

When Season 1 ended I thought it would be the start of a downhill, but here we are, midway through Season 2, and it's getting deeper, more complex, yet still with those touches of zany Newfie humour that drew me in the channel-surfing days.

The fishing-boat feud that is the core of this case is absorbing, with the usual twists and turns, and a quirky resolution that owes more to the communal spirit on the Rock than to the strict rule of law.

This episode settles some things for the Doyles and complicates others. If you've been watching from the beginning, this and the previous episode really firm up the ground that the Republic stands on, while simultaneously setting up future complications for the family I've grown so fond of. Far from being tempted to bail in Season 2, I am hooked more firmly than ever.

A satisfying catch for a show where fishing boats feature in half the scenes.

      Jake Doyle: Hi.

Leslie Bennett: They're keeping me here overnight.

Jake Doyle: You know what I find is interesting? Out of all of the people you could have called and you called me.

Leslie Bennett: I don't know? Just instinct I guess?

Jake Doyle: I'm really glad you called.
