Harry Hamlin was named People magazine's "sexiest man alive" for its March 30, 1987 issue. Adam mentions Working Girl (1988), which was released on 21 December 1988. Since school just restarted, this must be set in September 1989. The book club would not be reading a 2+ year old magazine. (1989's "sexiest man alive," Sean Connery, was not named until December 18, 1989.)
