    Just Plain Dull

I found both the cases incredibly dull. Shirley gets Alan to put the squeeze on her nephew who, as a delegate, refuses to go along with the results of the primary and endorse Hillary Clinton in Massachusetts. The other one is meat produced by cloning and a rancher looking out for her own interests, suing the company that produces the meat. And then a minus one for another of Denny's stupid infatuations. The Mad Cow thing at the ranch is just as stupid as all the arguments.

    Best scheduling reference evah!

With all the jabs the writers slip in at virtually everybody, the opening discussion of the BL time slot has got to be one of my favorite. I'm watching this series in 2018 so it's fun to go back and see the changes in dates and times referred to. ("The last time I saw you it was a Sunday but we were gone for a while and now we're back on Tuesdays." "I met someone during the strike... what strike?") Also, the political comments seem even more timely now than they did then. Just change a couple of names but, all the issues remain or have become even more pressing. What a great episode from a truly great show!

Addendum: The way I rate shows... I don't usually review anything less than a 7 because 6 would be a failing grade and I won't waste my time watching it. I'm old; I don't know how much time I've got left. Since I probably turned it off before getting even halfway through, it wouldn't be fair to rate or review it. 7 is watchable but I may go a while between episodes since, though somewhat entertaining, there are other shows more interesting or compelling. 8 would be a regular in my lineup. 9 is a must see and probably bingeable. 10 is just the epitome of superbity and headed for my all-time favorites list. I'm adding this to my reviews because it seems there are a lot of binary reactions to pretty much everything these days. I am not a like/unlike kind of guy. I see a lot of grays so if I give something a 10 it doesn't mean the only alternative is a 1.

      Alan Shore: I'm sorry, Denny.

Denny Crane: No you're not. You're relieved.

Alan Shore: Well, I'm that, too. But if you truly loved her then I am sorry.

      Denny Crane: ...

      Alan Shore: Denny?

Denny Crane: There's no need to be sorry, Alan. Love, even when it's fleeting, even if it's for a day or two...it's everything. Don't you agree?

Alan Shore: I do. I actually think it's why I'm still single. Every morning I get to wake up and I get to wonder: "Will this be the day?" Every night when I lay my head on my pillow I wonder: "Will I meet her tomorrow?" I imagine what she'll look like, her smile, the way she does her hair, how she laughs, the contour of her breasts, neck... The promise of love can be everything. It's a magic you really find in marriage if you luck out.

Denny Crane: Do you believe married people can stay in love?

Alan Shore: Oh, I believe thy can know even more profound joys be it with children, the depth of the relationship itself can evolve into something they can't possibly live without. And yet, it's something that doesn't quite so resemble love. It's not the romance of love.

Denny Crane: I never knew you to be such a romantic.

Alan Shore: My problem is I'm too romantic. No woman can possibly live up to the promise of tomorrow that love holds for me.

      Denny Crane: What about me?

Alan Shore: That not the same. You know one thing I do love about you?

      Denny Crane: Tell me!

Alan Shore: While many people embrace the promise of tomorrow, too few celebrate the joy of now. And nobody does that like Denny Crane.

Denny Crane: Let me tell you something. When you got polar ice caps melting and breaking off into big chunks and you got Osama still hiding in a cave, planning his next attack, when you got other rogue nations with nuclear arsenals, and not to mention some wack-job, home-grown that can cancel you at any second and when you got...mad cow, now gets high priority. And when you're still on the balcony on a clear night, sipping scotch with your best friend, now is everything.

      Alan Shore: Here's to that.

      Denny Crane: Here's to now.
