Michael Anthony: [Arriving at Brown's house side door] Good evening.
Harry Emerson Brown: The party's next door.
Michael Anthony: I know. They told me I'd find out here. You are Harry Emerson Brown?
Harry Emerson Brown: Yes.
[Brown ushers Anthony in]
Michael Anthony: My name is Michael Anthony. I have something for you, Mr. Brown: an anonymous gift from a benefactor.
[Opens his briefcase]
Michael Anthony: It's a cashier's check for $1,000,000.
Harry Emerson Brown: [Disbelieves Anthony] Oh, sure, $1,000,000.
Michael Anthony: It's tax-free.
Harry Emerson Brown: Uh huh.
Michael Anthony: [Retrieving document from briefcase] There is one condition. You must tell no one the amount of the gift or the circumstance under which you received it.
Harry Emerson Brown: [Nods]
Michael Anthony: If you do tell, the unspent portion will be forfeited.
Harry Emerson Brown: Naturally.
Michael Anthony: There's an exception. You may tell your wife, but no one else.
Harry Emerson Brown: Oh, don't tell me Marge has anything to do with this little stunt! This is not her style of humor.
Michael Anthony: No, I assure you, this is no stunt. This is a bona fide gift from any anonymous benefactor.
Harry Emerson Brown: Uh huh.
Michael Anthony: All you have to do
[Producing paper]
Michael Anthony: is sign this agreement that you understand this condition and the money will be yours.
Harry Emerson Brown: Okay.
[Brown signs the promise]
Harry Emerson Brown: Thank you very much. There you are.
[Anthony places the document back into his briefcase]
Harry Emerson Brown: What are you jokers playing up front? It can't be a scavenger hunt because you didn't ask for anything.
Michael Anthony: I don't think you understand.
Harry Emerson Brown: [Brown physically pushes Anthony toward the door] Why don't you go out the way you came in, if you don't mind?
Michael Anthony: If you'll just listen to me...
Harry Emerson Brown: Go back to the party.
Michael Anthony: [Forcefully] Look at the check. It's a cashier's check!
Harry Emerson Brown: [Examining check] It is a cashier's check. It is a million dollars!
Michael Anthony: Precisely. Now, good night, Mr. Brown, and good luck.
[Anthony departs]
Harry Emerson Brown: Good night.
