The Night of the Camera

Halfway into the fourth and final season of this series, Ross Martin broke his leg AND suffered a near-fatal heart attack, causing him to miss 9 of the last 15 episodes, starting with this one. So naturally, the network rearranged all remaining installments and tried out a few replacements, here represented by Charles Aidman as Jeremy Pike. Notable '60s comedian Pat Paulsen also appeared for comic relief in this chapter, but everybody involved in the TV show would admit how much Ross Martin was missed. Although shows like this were facing increasing amounts of criticism for their levels of violence, as well as the frequent cigar smoking and objectification of women, some fans still maintain (and I would wholeheartedly agree that) it was the absence of the character of Artemus Gordon that ultimately doomed this very popular series.
