Visiting Fireman

The Sweeney is paving the way for the eventual appearance of Morecambe & Wise.

Regan and Carter do a drunken song and dance routine in the style of the old schnoz, Jimmy Durante.

No need for John Thaw to give up the day job. Leave the singing to Dennis is you don't minder.

Regan finds himself suspended for associating with a known villain called Carew. One who is Regan's informer. Another cop wants to get Carew for a robbery that took place. However Carew was drinking with Regan on that evening.

All of a sudden, spending time with your snout is now a suspendable offence.

It gives Regan time to spend with visiting Turkish policeman Shebbeq. He is investigating a truck robbery in Turkey where gold bullions were robbed which could be linked to an insurance scam or something even more sinister.

Strangely this is another episode in series 3 where Haskins does not show up. Morris Perry plays DCS Maynon. It reminds me of The Sweeney movie where some old boss of Regan turns up who the viewer never heard of before.

It is a weirdly comedic episode. A garage mechanic tells Regan what is wrong with his car by saying I found this thing that is attached to some dynamite!

Trivia
The letter Q is not used in Turkish so "Shebbeq" would not be a legal name in Turkey. "Åebek", which is how the name would be written phonetically in Turkish, means "baboon, gibbon or hideously ugly person".

Goofs
The episode is set in March, judging by the scene in the car when Thompson accuses Carew of being involved in the robbery. However when Regan stops at the petrol station to check his car, there is a calendar which gives the month as September.
