The Homecoming

I suspect the word "leprosy" still causes shivers. Al Connolly (Karlan) has spent 4-years in a treatment center away from family and job. Now, apparently recovered from the dreaded disease, he faces the lingering stigma associated with its reputation. He's survived the illness, but can he and his wife recover from the stigma, when friends, neighbors, and extended family shun them.

I'm glad the series used very ordinary looking players for the two leads. That in itself was unusual for the time period, and lends good credibility. Al's treatment at the Center is told in voice-over flashback, while Dr. Styner (Boone) gets an extended talk explaining to doubtful friends and neighbors what their choices are now that Al is living among them. It's an impressive performance. All in all, the 30-minutes is a worthy entry with a quality ending that again shows respect for the audience.
