Quest of the Thirty Dead

Bronco is with his friend Jim Brandt on a train headed to Jim's wedding when a train is rerouted on the wrong track and hits another train. Jim is killed and Bronco is severely injured.

After a couple of months to recover, Bronco intends to investigate the train wreck,but Jim's fiancé Irene Lang tells him about a warning not to investigate the crash, and that comes from Bronco's Civil War commander/friend Colonel Bill Magrider who had deserted his men.

Does Bronco heed the warning? Eh, no!

Bronco even offers his help to railroad to catch Magrider, but railroad security man, P. J. Mohler refuses Bronco's help and says they already have a plan to catch Magrider with a shipment to Longhorn. When Irene tries to board the train, a man attacks her but Bronco stops him. She says the man was Magrider but Bronco knows he is an impostor.

What's a foot? Bronco intends to find out!

A Quest of the Thirty dead is one fun episode, centred around trains, has plenty of intrigue which hooks you in. There's enough twists, and Ray Danton's Magrider is a nuanced character, charming one minute and ruthless the next. Most of the action takes place in a train calaboose so if you are railroad fan you're in for a treat.
