Thanks for Everything, Friend

I like Bonanza so much, but this one is very, very disturbing. The writing is uneven, throughout the whole show. The character of Jerry, is hard to believe. Pernell Roberts seems uncomfortable, and the last scene is so disturbing, unexpected, and frightening.

Adam Cartwright is rescued from drowning by Tom Wilson (Rory Calhoun), a man as lucky at cards as he is at love. Though grateful to Tom, Adam looks askance when Tom moves in on Sue, the girlfriend of a man named Jerry (Tom Skerritt). She flirts with him and he responds. Poor Jerry isn't pleased and tells Little Joe that Wilson stolen his gal ... Little Joe meets Wilson and tells him to leave Sue and Wilson agrees ...

When Tom is accused of killing Sue's father, Adam tries to prove his innocence-a task that proves deceptively easy when Sue makes an all-too-convenient confession.

Interesting character study that is bolstered by Rory Calhoun who plays a charismatic yet enigmatic character with the morals of a hyena - this is an Adam story but Calhoun steals the limelight I reckon.
