I really didn't get the point of this one.

I really don't get the point of "First Class Honeymoon". It has no twist, lots of irrelevant plot details and no humor...just a sleazebag stealing $5000. Am I missing something here?

When the show begins, Edward (Robert Webber) is thrilled that he's finally rid of his wife, as their divorce is now final. But he isn't thrilled about the large alimony settlement ($2000 a month...equal to about $17000 a month now) as well as the expensive painting she commissioned before the divorce. So, he's thrilled when Carl visits and claims he's willing to marry Gloria to rid Edward of the expense of alimony....if Edward pays him $5000 now and $5000 tomorrow.

There really isn't any sort of payoff. It felt as if the story was woefully underdeveloped and felt like something was missing.

    FIRST CLASS CON.

This one is fun, and yes, the story of yet another marriage on the rocks, handily endorsed by Hitch.

Robert Webber plays Gibson, the rich sap in question, who divorced his wife, Gloria, costing him a fortune in alimony. To add injury to insult, she had a $2500 painting of herself recently done and Webber stiffed with the bill too! Enter handsome Carl (played by Jeremy Slate), a pal who makes Gibson a little proposition. Suppose... he marries Gloria, thus taking the financial burden off him. One thing, there's a price tag for that too.

Wait and see how it cleverly plays out, and watching Webber stumble through this one.

Without giving too much away, Gloria is only seen in the portrait.

Slate plays it smooth here, later to guest star on ONE LIVE TO LIVE. Beautiful Elaine Martine plays Marian and look for model and actress Kim Hamilton, in an early role, playing a maid.

Don Weis directs, known for IRONSIDE, HAWAII FIVE O, later MASH. Can't keep a good director down.

SEASON 7 EPISODE 36 remastered Universal dvd box set. The classic yellow and brown box for fans, and with Hitch's famous frown.

    Badly Scripted

So a guy cheats another guy out of Five Thousand Dollars. He doesn't fulfill the obligation but...I don't get the story. There is little suspense. I guess we're supposed to be happy that the newly divorced guy gets a bit of a comeuppance. Really unsatisfying as intrigue.

Some people will do anything for money

So Carl Seabrook (Jeremy Slate) is a lazy womanizer who is willing to marry Edward Gibson's (Robert Webber) ex-wife Gloria (we never see her except for in her portrait) for $10,000. Edward is happy to pay him the $5,000 he has today plus $5,000 from the bank tomorrow just to be able to stop paying alimony. And, Edward will throw in an extra $500 so Carl and Gloria can have a "first class honeymoon".

SPOILER: Turns out Carl will have a ten times better honeymoon with the $5,000 Edward already gave him as Carl leaves the next day with Marian (Elaine Martone) for a honeymoon. And Gloria? Well, let's just say she won't be asking for any more alimony . . . ever.

    • Trivia
Painting is the same one used in "Portrait of Jocelyn" episode of this series from Season 1.
    • Goofs
The money that Edward gives to Carl is clearly not American currency.

      [afterword]

Self - Host: Those of you who were disappointed because you expected "First Class Honeymoon" to be a love story will be glad to hear that subsequent events were more to your liking. While in St. Thomas, Mr. Seabrook met a beautiful girl, fell madly in love with her and she swindled him out of all his money. And speaking of money, I shall be back in a moment.

      [commercial]

Self - Host: That concludes tonight's entertainment. We shall be back next week with more.

[sees two geese, two llamas and two cows going by]

Self - Host: Well, I think I got aboard just in time. Good night.
