I'm Sure She Can Use An Edison Dictaphone

Gertrude McCoy supports her invalid sister and herself on her wages as a stenographer for Charles Sutton. When Richard Tucker gets the inside track on a deal and loses his stenographer, Sutton figures she'll engage in some industrial espionage for him.... or be blacklisted.

Miss McCoy's acting is a bit over the top here, but she's still a woman whom the camera loves. In her roles for Edison in this period, she played women who could stand up to the modern world. She might be a penniless Southern belle who gets hired by the police, or a housewife who can save a trainload of children through her driving. At Biograph, the Victorian model for women held; at Kalem, women were often action stars. Miss McCoy stood between them.

Miss McCoy's movie career ended in the middle of the 1920s. She died in 1957, aged 77.
