I imagine someone putting this in their VCR back in '91 or '92, zoning out to the tinny, never-changing music and mechanical sex scenes. Several scenes even help those who are not really paying attention by having Raven Richards (in her scene with Sean Michaels) and Dusty and Michelle Monroe (in their encounter) reciting what they want done to them or are doing to each other. There are certainly moments in porn where this type of commentary can be hot - think of Juliet Anderson coaxing Kay Parker and Kevin James in Taboo 2 - but that would entail a level of passion you just are not going to get here.
Aside from Michaels, the male cast feels very B-or-C level, although I don't think top talent would have made much of a difference, and I'd rather see lesser known names than the same few overexposed faces. (Sasha Gabor bearing an odd resemblance to Engelbert Humperdinck at least added something interesting to the rutting). Ron Jeremy, of course, is also there, in the orgy scene, giving a checked out performance (which isn't really a bad thing compared to more 'comedy acting').
There is a vague semblance of a storyline, a topic reflecting the malaise of this period, with Wayne Summers telling his wife (Saki St. Jermaine) he's bored of their swinging lifestyle, while Michaels tells Richards he's jealous of seeing her with other men; also reflecting the malaise of this period, the story is never really resolved. I guess we could write this off as an honest reflection of disillusionment in a post-yuppie world, or some other jargon, if you wish.
The most genuine responses probably generate with Dusty and Michelle, who have some spiky performances and energy together. Saki and Raven also have their moments...all four ladies doing well in spite of the overall leaden presentation.
The film concludes with various group sex positions shot in a bedroom and tiny living room, with very stilted camera work (although if you are a fan of the backsides of Mr. Summers or Mr. Gabor, you'll get plenty of chances to see them), and scenes that like the others in the film seem to go on for an eternity. There are also bloopers, which are fun enough for the few minutes they're on.
Saki's House Party is probably a more authentic experience than most of today's porn, but unless you are desperate for authenticity and not much else, I'd say better luck elsewhere.
