Mad Men (2007–2015)

Gave it a good chance...

...but I won't continue. I stopped mid second season.

This series isn't bad. The production values are great, everything looks and feels like this show was actually filmed in the 60s. The actors all play their parts right, nothing wrong there.

It's just not engaging. So after the initial "wow, the 60s were so different! Look everybody smokes!" shock value factor goes away. There's not much left to keep me interested.

The main character is so unintersting that his main character trait is basically that he cheats with every woman he sees.

That leaves the side characters to pick up the slack, but most of the men are basically also portrayed as womanizers who (want to) cheat with every skirt with legs. And apart from Peggy, all the main women are either home wreckers, or ditzy trophies for men. Wether as a wife, or otherwise.

"Everybody smokes though, look they even smoke with children present! That's so crazy!"

So no characters one can invest in, as most all are practically flat cardboard versions. No interesting stories, unless you want to see 50% of episodes be filled with cheating men.

The other half of the episode is pretending we are looking at a marketing agency, you know, the ones where nobody ever works but they only drink and smoke and try to pick up the female co-workers.

The only difference between Mad Men and any run of the mill soap show, is that this takes place in the 60s. That, and they had a higher budget so it doesn't look as average.

It is though. Average.
