Shay Esterian is a filmmaker, 26 years old, native of the interior of São Paulo state, and moved to Rio de Janeiro in 2013 to study Cinema at the Universidade Federal Fluminense, where she graduated in 2019.
Since the beginning of university she started working in television companies like Canal Futura and TV Globo. After that she worked as director and producer of marketing audiovisual.
At the same time to these works, Shay released in 2019 her first short film, the documentary "Arquivo", a film that tells oral histories of her family and their relations with cinema and food. In the same year, she started the pre-production of her second short film and first fiction, but it was interrupted at the beginning of the following year because of COVID-19.
In 2020, in the middle of the lockdown, she started two projects, the platform setima.art which is focused on free content dissemination about cinema, offering articles and courses for those who want to enter or already work in the area, and she teaches classes about Directing, and also started the script of her first feature film, the fiction "Marginal Love".
Already in 2021, finishing the first treatment of the feature film (currently looking for development possibilities and laboratories), produced her second short documentary "A Visual Tale" (name not final), currently in post-production and expected to be released this year, also started the other two projects, a short fiction film and a feature documentary.
In parallel to her film projects, Shay became an editor for a Japanese magazine, where she writes about cinema, as well as she dedicates her studies to East Asian Cinema and studying Mandarin.
