Studied at St Aidan's RC School, Sunderland (North England), from 1980 to 1987. He got his BA HONS in English literature and Religious Philosophy at the Chester College (1988 - 1991) and graduated from University of Central Lancashire with a master's degree in Broadcast Journalism in 1995.
