Violeta Barca-Fontana, 1978. Member of the Academy of Cinematographic Arts and Sciences of Spain. She studied film production, script writing and direction at different schools such as: New York Film Academy and School of Visual Arts (New York). She has been working in the film industry since 1997. She has worked with teachers such as Carlos Saura, José Luis García Sánchez and Andrés Vicente Gómez. In 2003 she produced a feature film called La Fiesta distributed by the Walt Disney Company (Spain). Since 2016 she has been a feature film selector at the Madrid Film Festival and in 2018 she directed the closing gala. She has directed documentaries and several short films selected at different national and international festivals. Her latest outstanding works are: Color Thief, Best PNR Partner Short Film Award at the Madrid Film Festival, Architecture and Landscape Award at the Galdar Film Festival and Selected at the Cannes Film Corner in 2014. Don Quixote in a Fragmented World, finalist in the Goya 2016 or Fronteras del 2020 awards. As a screenwriter, four feature films: Atrévete, Entre Raíles, Myths and La Flor de Ulises. In October 2018, she opened the Madrid Film Festival in her opening session with her feature film Pieces of New York. She has been a jury member at different festivals and competitions such as: Márgenes, ABC-Guionistas, the Soria or Medina del Campo International Short Film Competition. Desván is her last work, a fictional short film shot in 2021.
