The movie Virus did not officially scuttle across screens until 1999, but its biomechanical horrors first sprang to life a bit earlier. Fire up your ultra-high-definition televisions and Blu-ray players. One of the spicy films from the 90s’ most notorious screen vixen, Sharon Stone, is getting a new 4K remaster. Blu-ray.com has just revealed that the 1993 thriller, Sliver, which stars Stone, William Baldwin, Tom Berenger, Polly Walker and Colleen Camp. Vinegar Syndrome will be distributing the physical media release and it’s been scheduled to hit retailers on January 28.

The description reads,

Hollywood has seen its fair share of feuds, but few can rival the fiery clash between Sharon Stone and Billy Baldwin. Behind the scenes, this rift was born from both personal and professional tensions. Like a movie script gone wrong, the conflict simmered for years before reaching the boiling point.

Her crew took a bus to twenty cities over three weeks, conducting over one-hundred and seventy-five interviews as a means to research common issues and various solutions utilized to combat a complex crisis. “Americans With No Address” director/producer Julia Verdin wanted her documentary to put to rest a common misconception about people who are homeless. “We wanted to show the spectrum of the different types of individuals that ended up on the streets,” she said during a recent conversation with TheWrap’s Joe McGovern. “Because one thing that struck me and one of the reasons why I wanted to make this is that there’s a general perception that everybody on the streets are drug addicts or have mental issues. And that is just not true. There are a lot of regular people on the streets who, just through bad circumstances, [like] not being able to keep up with the rent, have ended up there.”

For the conversation, which followed a virtual showing of the film as part of TheWrap Screening Series, Verdin was joined by “Americans With No Address” narrator William Baldwin and featured talent Xander Berkeley.

War of the Worlds: Extinction is a followup to The Asylum’s 2021 film War of the Worlds: Annihilation, but in the opening montage, however, the film flips the script entirely, revealing that rather than Earth being invaded it was us doing the invading, attacking and trying to colonize the planet Emios after we made Earth uninhabitable.

Almost immediately after that montage, we see the one returning character, General Skuller leading his troops against the Earth forces, apparently in defiance of orders to stand down and welcome what are referred to as refugees from Earth. Any chance of that happening vanishes when he sees his daughter vaporized by an enemy craft while trying to lead some of those refugees to safety.

Back in 1990, director Joel Schumacher teamed with screenwriter Peter Filardi to bring us the psychological horror film Flatliners, a movie that was memorable enough to receive a forgettable reboot in 2017. Filardi recently regained the rights to his original screenplay – and Deadline reports that he has given author J.D. Barker the chance to write a novel called Flatliners Resurrection, which is based on Filardi’s script but puts a new twist on the concept.

The film has the following synopsis: Seeking answers about the afterlife, Chicago medical student Nelson persuades his fellow pupils to help him end his life, and then resuscitate him in the nick of time. Atheist David, playboy Joe, and troubled Rachel also journey into the unknown, looking for meaning in their own lives. As the experiments become more perilous, each is forced to contend with the paranormal consequences of trespassing on the other side.

In the wake of the original 1990 movie and the largely forgotten 2017 remake, the Flatliners saga will continue with Flatliners Resurrection, a new novel that’s currently in the works.

According to Deadline’s exclusive report this morning, the upcoming novel will be penned by J.D. Barker (Dracul), and it puts a fresh twist on the original Flatliners screenplay.

Deadline explains, “The original [movie] was released by Columbia, but Barker said that scribe Peter Filardi got back the rights to his original script, and the author swayed the scribe with a twist to the original tale that takes the reanimation tale down a different road than the original or a later remake. The novel is based on that script, not the movie, and Intellectual Property Group’s Joel Gotler will broker both the publishing and screen rights.”

“We’re thrilled to have J.D. Barker on board for this project,” said Filardi.

Have you got any salt handy? You may want to take a pinch of it for this one. Following recent star turns in Top Gun: Maverick, Anyone But You, Richard Linklater's Hit Man, and buzzy summer disaster movie blockbuster Twisters, it would be fair to say that Glen Powell is very hot right now. But he could be about to get hotter — quite literally. In a recent interview with CNBC posted to the broadcaster's YouTube channel, Imagine Entertainment co-founder Brian Grazer said not once, but twice, that a remake of Ron Howard's 1991 firefighting classic Backdraft is in the works, with none other than Powell set to star. Now, as we say, some salt-pinching is required at this stage because neither Powell nor original Backdraft director Howard are on the record as saying this film is happening just yet.

Here’s an interesting story which suggests that Backdraft, the 1991 firefighting drama may be getting a sequel. Well, another sequel that is given that Universal Pictures Home Entertainment released a direct-to-video follow-up in 2019. Given that Ron Howard’s production company are involved this time though, we’d imagine that should this come to fruition, this one would be a proper bells and whistles sequel with a sizeable budget and lots of movie stars.

You know, in some film circles, Ron Howard gets a lot of guff for being a "boring" director. But I think that's unfair. Sure, Howard has some duds in his directorial career, but he also has some home runs. "Apollo 13" is an exciting "based on a true story" flick, "The Paper" is a nifty look at the world of newspaper journalism, the underrated "Cinderella Man" is a stellar boxing drama. And then there's "Backdraft," Howard's 1991 thriller about firefighters. To be fair, the "Backdraft" script is a bit weak, but the film itself is action-packed and boasts some incredible visual effects that use real fire. The film also has a killer cast, including Robert De Niro, the late, great Donald Sutherland, Jennifer Jason Leigh, J.T. Walsh, Scott Glenn, and, of course, Kurt Russell.

William Baldwin starred in three projects with Donald Sutherland, the Emmy- and honorary Oscar-winning actor who died Thursday at age 88 after a seven-decade Hollywood career.

I have the honor and pleasure of working with Donald Sutherland on three occasions.

The first was when he so brilliantly portrayed the deranged, psychopathic arsonist Ronald in Ron Howard’s Backdraft.

The second was 20 weeks on the Universal sci-fi thriller Virus with Jamie Lee Curtis.

The third, and by far my favorite, was when he played my father and patriarch of the Darling family, Tripp Darling, on the short-lived but wonderful ABC hit Dirty, Sexy, Money.

Donald was a complex, complicated and quirky man in the most delicious way. He had a gentle, childlike boyish streak in him that I absolutely adored.

Billy Ray called him “a prince.” Kiefer Sutherland said his dad was “never daunted by a role, good, bad or ugly.” Horror filmmaker Joe Russo simply wrote, “Rip to the Goat.”

Hollywood is sounding off on the death of Donald Sutherland, the 2017 recipient of an Honorary Oscar who died Thursday in Miami at 88. Stars such as Michael Douglass and Rachel Zegler have responded to the news as well.

Sutherland played key parts in films like Ordinary People (1980), Pride & Prejudice (2005) and The Hunger Games quartet of films based on the books by Suzanne Collins. He was also a staple of Robert Altman’s Mash in the role of Hawkeye Pierce.

“I never had the honor of knowing him personally, but it was the honor of a lifetime to follow in his footsteps,” Tom Blyth, who portrayed a younger version of Sutherland’s Hunger Games character in a prequel film, wrote on Instagram.

Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man receives less fan love than these superheroes in the MCU. When fans were asked to poll on the best superhero trilogy in the MCU, most of them chose Chris Evans’ Captain America trilogy and James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy. While the first Iron Man film remains one of the best films in the 30 billion-dollar franchise, Downey Jr.’s third film had unfavorable opinions, which made it many people’s third favorite trilogy.

However, the critical and audience opinions are different cases from the box office numbers of these films. Interestingly, the controversial Iron Man 3 had box office earnings higher than any of the Captain America movies or the Guardians of the Galaxy movies.

Backdraft earns a 7 out of 10 for realism. The Ron Howard action thriller's depiction of a backdraft is accurate, but firefighters now have methods for mitigating the phenomenon's effects. Backdraft is one of Russell's most iconic 1990s movies, and it was a critical and commercial success.

A real firefighter analyzes scenes from Backdraft, and the film earns a respectable accuracy score. Released in 1991, Backdraft is directed by Ron Howard and features Kurt Russell starring as firefighter Stephen McCaffrey. The film, which chronicles the investigation of a serial arsonist, was a box office hit and was highly praised for its practical effects, particularly those involving fire.

In a recent video for Insider, New York City firefighter Anthony Martinez analyzes scenes from Backdraft, including one that features the eponymous phenomenon.

According to Martinez, the movie not only gets many elements right, it was also a major inspiration for him actually choosing to become a firefighter.

Batman, a character with a rich history in comics, has been portrayed by numerous actors across various mediums, from live-action films to animated projects. Some actors have had brief appearances as the Caped Crusader, while others have portrayed him for years.

Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis have issued an apology after writing letters in support of Danny Masterson ahead of his sentencing in his Los Angeles rape case.

Kutcher and Kunis took to Instagram on Saturday and posted a video and apologized, saying it was never their intent to undermine the testimony of the victims or re-traumatize them in any way with the letters they submitted to Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Charlaine F. Olmedo.

“We are aware of the pain that has been caused by the character letters on behalf of Danny Masterson,” Kutcher said in the video, to which Kunis followed with, “We support victims. We have done this historically through our work and will continue to do so in the future.”

While Hinshaw never mentioned Masterson by name, the message came on the same day it was revealed that Ashton Kutcher, Mila Kunis, Debra Jo Rupp, Kurtwood Smith, Giovanni Ribisi, William Baldwin and many others wrote letters to the judge in an effort to get her to show Masterson mercy prior to his sentencing.

The judge overseeing Danny Masterson’s criminal case handed the actor the maximum allowable sentence, resisting calls from nearly 50 of his family, friends and colleagues to allow him to serve his prison term concurrently rather than consecutively.

Ashton Kutcher, Mila Kunis, Kurtwood Smith, Debra Jo Rupp and David Trainer — all of whom worked alongside Masterson in That ’70s Show — wrote to the court as character references urging Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Charlaine F.
