Well, somebody did, and when Gorilla Grodd and co. raid a satellite launch, only to come face-to-face with Green Arrow, Aquaman and Black Canary, song and dance takes centre stage.
I've seen the classics with Adam West and Burt Ward, the Keaton films, the Kilmer and Clooney ones which almost killed Batman Forever, the awesome 90's cartoon series, the poor, over-hyped latest blockbusters as well as the last TV cartoon series, and simply put: this episode is the best installment in the filmed Batman catelogue. Yep, it's that good.
So, without giving the plot away, just know that the Music Meister (fans now ask, "The WHO?!") sings the song that the world wants to hear... and it's actually true, so give this episode a chance. You won't regret it.
This was a marvellous episode. I was worried that it would take an appreciation of both theatre and cheese to enjoy it, and having seen the minority of the critical reception, I was right. With most, though, I think this is a resounding success. It is so because it's so very self aware in such an undeniably fun and self aware way.
It's so clever that it's hard not to be swept along with it. I think younger audiences simply won't understand what they're doing not having been exposed to the sillier side of theatre (especially theatrical parody), and there are those who've such a compulsive obsession with seriousness that they won't give it the time of day. It's not meant for them.
This is the heart and soul of the gold and silver ages embraced in a way that's not at all patronising or misguided. It understands what it wants to be and embraces that identity with all of the modern lustre it can. And it's so very good.
It'll fly over some heads, but it'll result in a wry smile on the faces of many more. Give it a look. Definitely one for the older and wiser among us, this.
Not much to say, really liked Neil Pactrick Harris as the Music Meister, he kinds looks like Paul Williams from "Phantom of the Paradise" from that hair to the amount of different outfits he had.
But of course what really makes this episode are the song scenes, two of my favorites that stand out were "Drives us Bats". It was just a really fun and exciting song, though what was really funny and surreal was seeing the great amount of villains providing the chorus line.
Though I really love that song from Black Canary which was just beautiful; Grey Desale really can sing. It was a love song but it was just sweet and has a Broadway quality to it. Though what made it better was when she sang it again and another joined it, I won't say who but if you know your DC comics then you already know.
This episode carries a sweet tune.

- QuizThis isn't the first time Neal Patrick Harris has been a singing super villain. He was also Dr. Horrible in Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog (2008).
- BlooperAt the end of the first scene wherein Batman rescues everyone from the rocket's blast, he tosses a set of protective earpieces to Aquaman, Black Canary and Green Arrow. Yet in the very next scene, where Music Meister takes control of Arkham Asylum and other local populace, these other three heroes are also controlled and are singing.
