The Black Book

Rebus is in a bad mood. He has just moved in with a new girlfriend and she has already thrown him out.

Rebus is now homeless as he stupidly rented his out own place out to some students.

When he displays road rage to a visiting high flying detective, he is placed in some counselling sessions.

Finding the body of a dead woman who might have been buried alive does not lighten anyone's mood. Especially Rebus as it has similarities of an unsolved murder from 20 years earlier. Where a woman was buried alive in a local landmark.

Rebus had a suspect called Daniel Raeburn but no proof against him. He was a rich party guy back then, he is now a Member of the Scottish Parliament. His wife is a lawyer.

Rebus should tread lightly but he just cannot help rubbing the MSP and his family the wrong way. A book with ciphers might provide an important clue but someone tries to steal it.

A man in the pub takes a bit too much of an interest in Rebus.

The third series gets off to a strong start, several red herrings, a few wrong turns, Rebus has a vendetta and even a bit of humour.

Rebus investigates the death of a young woman, who's body is found buried in the same place as one from years before, he is made to work alongside DI Dalcastle, the pair don't hit it off.

A cracking start to series three, I thoroughly enjoyed this episode, there is so much going on. We have Rebus forced to work with an equal, he's angry because he's been dumped, and because he's made to go to therapy, some of Ken Stott's acting here was first rate.

It's a great mystery, it truly works as a whodunnit, in that you're given lots of clues and hints, but you are made to wait until the end to learn the identity of the killer.

I liked that we got to learn more about Siobhan, I thought Claire Price was terrific here.

Excuse the ignorance, but the filming locations used are breathtaking, truly incredible.
