by HRC Staff

SAN ANTONIO — Today, the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) PAC — the nation’s largest lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ+) civil rights organization — announced that it is proudly endorsing Gina Ortiz Jones for mayor of San Antonio, Texas. HRC PAC is committed to engaging its volunteers, members and supporters to mobilize the voters of the Alamo City in support of Jones. If elected, Gina Ortiz Jones would bring her lived experience as a member of the LGBTQ+ community to the work of improving the lives of all San Antonians.

Human Rights Campaign President Kelley Robinson released the following statement:

“Every one of us deserves leaders who value equality and will fight to ensure that we can live freely without fear of discrimination. Gina Ortiz Jones is that leader. In the midst of unprecedented, discriminatory attacks against LGBTQ+ people by Governor Abbott and the Trump Administration, San Antonio needs Gina’s historic leadership. Opponents of equality want to divide us and use LGBTQ+ lives as a scapegoat while they fail to solve our country’s most pressing issues. But unlike those who use our community for selfish gain, Gina will roll up her sleeves and get to work tackling the problems that are impacting our neighbors, families and coworkers and standing up for the rights and safety of every San Antonian.”

HRC’s Commitment to Texas

Equality Voters, including the more than two million in Texas, are a voting bloc of demographically and geographically diverse Americans who are united by the advancement of LGBTQ+ equality. Equality Voters are younger, more racially diverse, and more female than the general electorate, they recognize and trust the HRC brand, and they are more likely to identify with issue-specific organizations than candidates or political parties.

HRC has had staff and resources on the ground in Texas since 2017. Across the country, HRC PAC works every day to elect pro-equality leaders who support policies that will support the rights and lives of LGBTQ+ people.
