Administrators in the Hillsboro School District won’t be making a ringing endorsement of the North Dakota Legislature’s ongoing efforts to prohibit student cellphone use in schools.
State lawmakers recently passed two bills – Senate Bill 2354 and House Bill 1160 – that would introduce a statewide cellphone ban for students during the school day.
The Senate bill would allow schools to update their cellphone policies to allow students to access their phones or smart watches during noninstructional times while the House version would ban the devices throughout the school day.
Superintendent Jon Dryburgh updated the Hillsboro School Board on the state Legislature’s attempts to crack down on cellphones in schools during the board’s monthly meeting Thursday, April 10.
